Face Favourites

Now, I’m not one to do ‘Monthly Favourites’, I love reading them, but I just suck at doing them. Which is kinda sad because I love sharing products that I’m currently loving. Today I’m here to share with you some products that I like that go on my face! Surprisingly there are a lot of highlighters in this lot of stuff, I didn’t expect that to happen. But I’m glad it did, I’m really excited to share with you some of my favourite ‘face’ products!

Fave face

Unbeknownst to me at the time, but I kind of organised this photo into groups. The first three on the left side are for more of a dewy look, the three on the right side are more matte. The bottom two are liquid/cream products, then the next middle two are ‘primer’-esque products and the top two are liquid foundations. The column through the middle is powder. I honestly just threw it all together for the one photo. I think it worked out alright. It serves its purpose.

Prime:

primer

Priming my face is something that I’ve recently started to make a beauty habit. Since discovering Kismet Jardin and working with them, using the Hydra Gem under my foundation has become apart of my morning routine. You can read my full review of it here.¬†¬†It works so well under foundation, for me being of the dry skin type using this product allows me to wear matte finish foundations without it clinging to my dry spots!

The QV Matte finish oil free moisturiser is a new product that was only released in stores April 1st. I didn’t know if it was going to be a good fit for me because I do have dry skin, but using this product on top of the Kismet Jardin Hydra Gem allows me to use super dewy finish foundations. I never knew that priming my face would have such benefits to the look and wear of my entire face of makeup. I now can’t live without these two products!

Foundation:

foundations

I’d been a lover of the L’Oreal True Match in the original formula for quite a while but sadly the finish clings to some of my dry spots, I finally make the decision to purchase the Lumi version of the foundation and it is perfection! I use this on top of the Hydra Gem and Matte moisturiser together and it gives my face the most flawless finish! I love this foundation so much and can see myself repurchasing it over and over!

The Maybelline foundation is something that I’d heard a lot about but had never picked up, but in the 40%off Cosmetics Priceline sale and I’m glad I did. I can wear this on top of the Hydra Gem and not even have to powder on top! It has such a nice natural finish. It lasts a really long time and doesn’t break down or separate which is a winner in anyones book. The shade I have is a little bit pink for me but I can get away with it, which is good because I’ve been using this foundation a lot lately and I don’t want to live without it.

Australis’ fresh and flawless face powder is a cult classic. I’ve been using it for years, and I’m never disappointed. It glides effortlessly over liquid foundation to add some extra coverage and to set. It also works so well on its own when I’m having those rare ‘good skin days’. I own it in a few shades and use them all at once. It is such an affordable product for everyday use!

Highlighters/Illuminators

super close

There are a few here that are in my daily use rotation. A mix of different formulas and a wide range in brands, I’m really excited to share with you these products. From left to right the brands are:¬†Williams Pro Makeup, Vani-T, Tarte and Face of Australia.

closeup

You can see here that there are different shades and vary in luminosity and glow. I use them all so much and would love for you to try some of these products!

Williams Pro: #SelfieGlo
This beautiful little diamond tub holds a loose pigment like highlighter that can be used all over the body. I’ve used it on the cheeks and cupids bow, as well as a brow highlight even as an eye shadow. It is gorgeous. It has a duo chrome finish to it from a pearly white to a warm pinky red/orange/gold? it sounds strange but it reflects the colours in your skin tone so well to make it look very natural. This product can be layered for more intensity, too. I really like to spray my brush with MAC fix+ and apply this as an eye shadow. It is so pretty!

Vani-T: Mineral Colour Stick – Ivory
I got sent this product by a mix up, but I’m happy to have it in my collection. I fell in love with Vani-T products after the Bloggers United AU Adelaide event and since then I’ve purchased more products, but this colour stick is such a beautiful warm highlight shade. It blends into the skin like butter, it is absolutely gorgeous. Because it is a cream product, you can set it with a powder highlight and it makes everything absolutely pop! I LOVE this product and will probably purchase some more of the colour sticks. They’re universal!

Tarte: Rainforest of the Sea ‘Skin Twinkle’ lighting palette:
I picked this up in the 40% off Tarte sale a little while back and to say I was excited was an understatement! The two shades swatched here are: (L-R) Sunlight (champagne gold) and Moonlight (rosy pearl). These are so pretty and perfect for daily glow but as always, like all highlighters can be layered for intensity. The products are so smooth they look and feel like cream, but they are powder and some of the finest powders I own. The shade in the middle is a matte shade that I use for setting my under eye area. You can see the dent taken out of it, I really do like that powder. (its not swatched though).

Face of Australia: Mineral Therapy Illuminator – Angel Mist
You can mix this in with your foundation for an all over dewy glow, use it as an all over face primer for that ‘back lit’ glow from within look, or tapped on the cheeks bones and other ‘general highlight’ areas. It blends so easy. It is a liquid product so a little goes a long way! Its a pinky / pearl / shell illuminator and it does a great job of bringing out that natural glow.

highlighters

And there you have it! These are some of the products that I’ve been really liking so far! If you want an in-depth review on any of the products in this blog, just ask and I’ll get to it!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Mask of the Month: Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Final Review.

I’ve decided since I have nothing bad to say about this mask, this will be my final review and I’ll have some related posts coming up for the remainder of the month! Exciting – I know.

The lowdown:

  • Price: $19.99¬†Priceline,¬†Woolworths, $15.99 at¬†Chemist Warehouse, $22.00¬†Coles¬†($14.00 sale price). Pack contains 5 masks – approx $4.00 per mask.
  • Target/Aim: ‘… to¬†provide long lasting moisture to help skin look hydrated, radiant and glowing’
  • Skin Type: Suited for¬†Dry Skin¬†but aimed at any skin that needs moisture.
  • Smell:¬†The smell is somewhat like cherry medicine scent – like the rest of the Hydro Boost range. It doesn’t linger nor do I find it unpleasant.
  • Texture:¬†Each is a stretchy cloth mask that feels slippery and like gel.
  • Colour: White and the gel is clear.
  • Directions:¬†“To use, remove mask and unfold gently stretching the fabric cloth to cover your entire face, press lightly with finger tips to set in place and relax for 15 minute allowing the essence nourish your skin. Ideal for use at night, once the fabric mask is removed the concentrated formula works beneath the skin to continuously hydrate whilst you sleep.”

What the packaging says:

Use after cleansing, open pack, take out mask and unfold.
Gently stretch the mask leftwards and rightward to cover your entire face.
Press lightly with fingertips to set in place over face. Relax for 15mins and remove mask. Manage remaining maskhydrating essence on face. There is no need to rinse off the essence. Discard the sheet after use. Ideal for use at night.

New Information:

  • Application:¬†I’m getting better at applying it now. I’m not being so delicate with it and I’m really impressed at how it hasn’t ripped.
  • Dry Time:¬†I kept this mask on for 20 – 25 minutes
  • 5 mins in:¬†Still haven’t gotten used to the cold shock of when I apply it. But because I was just relaxing playing xbox and not really moving my mouth etc around much, I didn’t have an issue with the moustache strip becoming loose.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Still nice and stuck to my face!
  • Just before removal:¬†Once I felt like I’d had enough of the mask, I simply peeled it off. Easy Peasy!
  • Removal process:¬†Easy Peasy!
  • Instant results:¬†My skin felt super nice and squidgy, like always.
  • 10 mins after:¬†I wanted to see how well this mask worked with other products so I used the night cream from the Hydro Boost line with this mask. It felt so good!
  • Next morning:¬†I think because I used the night cream as well, my skin was just in hydro heaven.
  • Visible change:¬†Skin is very supple. No dry areas.

DSCN3419

I’m becoming desensitised by the freaky-ness of this mask. I really love the Hydro-Boost sheet masks. Used in conjunction with the other products from this line I can see that my skin will just love me for it.

I used the night and day moisturiser this time with the mask and can’t wait to do a review of all the products at once! They’re perfect for people with dry skin or just anyone who needs a moisture boost! With winter coming up I think a moisturising mask once a week can really improve things!

I’ll be doing a full review on the range soon!

Tonight I played some xbox with my partner. We played a few games – it was really fun. One in particular called ‘Cactus’ that I really liked. It reminds me of ‘Hero’s Duty’ from Wreck it Ralf mixed with ‘Sugar Rush’ also from WiR. The characters are all super cute girls with guns and its a basic top down shooter game. I think I might do a review of it. So keep an eye out for that in the future if you’re interested.

Here are a few photos from the game. Its really fun and easy to play for someone who might not be as experienced.

Kismet Jardin Hydra-Gem Review

Skincare is one of my favourite things to review – I love finding products that are universal for all skin types even if they’re targeted at a certain type. If you’ve been a reader of my posts you’ll know that I review a different face mask each week for a month. I’ve enjoyed making them work for my skin and giving you guys honest feed back on wether or not I think its worth it. Today I’m here to share with you a product I think¬†is worth it and will work with all skin types.

I’ve mentioned Kismet Jardin a few times here on my blog, and if you follow some other Adelaide Bloggers (you should, they’re lovely) then you might have seen them mention this brand and product too. We received a full size of the Hydra-Gem as a gift amongst other things when we spoke to Kismet Jardin at the Bloggers United AU Adelaide Event. Since then I have been using it on and off it wasn’t until I was contacted by them to give a review that I began using it daily. I have been using it daily for a month now and I feel like I’m ready to review it in depth. In case I miss anything, read about it here!!

This is the product here – firstly the packaging. Absolutely gorgeous. The bottle comes with a pump and it disperses the perfect amount of product. The bottle itself is thick glass – and let me tell you from experience, it can take a hit. I knocked it off the vanity onto tiles floor and nothing was broken – so its sturdy. A win in my book.

A little about the company – Kismet Jardin is a South Australian brand based right here in Adelaide so its perfect for those who want to shop local and support SA. Kismet Jardin believe in all natural everything, there is a really cute story about nature in today’s busy concrete life that is really quite lovely to read on their website. The word Kismet means fate or destiny and the word Jardin is French for garden. So when put together it can mean Fate’s Garden or The Garden of Destiny – something along those lines, which is quite a pretty mental image.

This photo looks so photoshopped but I assure you, it isn’t. Its just my awkward self touching my face – the usual.

When I¬†use this product: I use one to two pumps of this in the morning after my usual skincare routine and before makeup and at night once I’ve taken all my makeup off – done my nightly skincare and right before bed.

A few things that I’ve noticed about this product:

  1. How fast it absorbs into the skin. It is almost instant – I don’t have to wait around for it to sink in I can apply makeup almost instantly after.
  2. Texture is lightweight and very smooth. Its quite a runny formula but nothing that gets out of hand. No chunky bits or residue and no oils. Its an oil-free product.
  3. The smell of this is interesting. There is no scents or perfumes added so it won’t irritate your skin. The smell is purely of the all natural, certified organic products used to make up this product. It doesn’t linger and I don’t think it is terrible its just an earthy smell, almost like laying in grass? Grass sweat? is that a thing? I’m making it sound worse than what it is! It doesn’t linger, but keep it in mind.
  4. I’ve noticed that my skin is starting to firm up – nothing like The Thing from Fantastic 4 or anything. But I feel like its smooth and tight – in a good way. I’ve also noticed no reaction from this – I’ve not had any break outs – and my skin isn’t as obnoxiously dry as it used to be. Its supple and plump without being oily. My skin tone has improved and I find myself having more ‘good skin days’.

img_0800

What the product boasts:
Hydra-Gem is to support collagen and elastane synthesis and to plump, protect and deeply hydrate skin. I’m not sure what I can say personally for the collagen and elastane part because I do still have ‘young skin’ and haven’t noticed myself lacking in that area – but prevention is the best cause of action right? – or something like that so I hope that I’m gonna be having flawless skin when I’m 75. (Come back in 40 years for a review). I can say however, that my skin feels plump and hydrated. There has been no excess oils or anything coming to my skin so I can imagine how good that would be to those of you who suffer from oily issues. Hyaluronic Acid is one of the ingredients in this which is a big moisture boost to the skin and I can’t get enough of it.

Some more things I’ve noticed:

  1. It works well under makeup. It provides a protective barrier between skin and makeup. Hence why it is a serum-primer. Really, it is a universal product.
  2. It travels well – because I proved to myself accidentally that it can take a hit, I take it with me when I travel. Its the perfect size, the cap is strong and doesn’t flick off to leak everywhere, and because I don’t usually do a full face of makeup to sit in the car for 3+ hours. I put some of this on and my skin doesn’t feel dry or gross from the air con from all the recycled air. I can just imagine how nice this would feel when flying!
  3. Dry skin girls! For those of us who like a matte finish makeup without looking flakey – its a hard one to master. There is usually a lot of prep work that goes into readying our skin. Skin oil, moisturiser, primer, dewy face mist, deal with the devil… The usual. I’ve found with this, I can cut out a lot of those steps and wear a matte finish foundation over top. Hydra-Gem creates the perfect base!
  4. I’ve also found that it works well with other products! For those days that I want a super dewy finish. I use the Hydra-Gem and then a mattifying moisturiser over the top – the Hydra-Gem allows the moisture through without drying my skin, and the matte finish allows the dewy foundation to go on and not slide all over my face! LOVE THAT!

I honestly think this product is a game changed in my morning routine and if you’re someone who loves natural skincare, supporting local brands (don’t worry they ship internationally) and just genuinely good products then I really suggest you look at the Award Winning company – Kismet Jardin.

Mask of the Month: Neutrogena Hydro-boost week 2 review

Back at it again with the white face mask! This time I slept with it on! keep reading to see my results. This is such a fun mask! Such little effort but such good results!

  • Application:¬†This week I didn’t care so much about getting the mask smooth on my face, I didn’t care if it was wrinkled, I just wanted to make sure that there was no air pockets like last time.
  • Dry Time:¬†This time I slept with it on. Which turned out better than I thought.
  • 5 mins in:¬†When you first apply this, its so cold, so that kind of woke me up a bit, but after a few minutes, its room temperature because of your body heat. It feels refreshing.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Because I’m laying down, the strip between my nose and lip wasn’t such a big issue.
  • Just before removal:¬†So I slept with it on for approx 7 hours and it actually went really well, I thought it’d fall off in the night and I’d end up with a soggy pillow, but that wasn’t the case! Because the gel and the fabric work well together it is the right amount of ‘sticky’ and it didn’t slide around my face at all!
  • Removal process:¬†Super easy!
  • Instant results:¬†My skin felt so supple. A good kind of squidgy? I could feel the moisture being sucked in by my dry skin. It was a nice way to wake up with nice fresh skin.
  • 10 mins after:¬†I was running late this morning so I went straight into my skincare and makeup routine. Makeup applied really nicely over the fresh skin.
  • Next morning:¬†N/A
  • Visible change:¬†It seemed to counteract some redness and obviously my dry patches weren’t so bad.

This mask contains 6x more hyaluronic acid (the moisture stuff) than the hydro-boost serum. (which I also own) so I’m pretty keen on getting some supple skin!

DSCN3400

I’d just applied the mask here, and as you can see there are air pockets around the eye area and bridge of the nose. This is something that I wanted to try and stop. So I re arranged it. I also thing it looks better when the eye cut outs are a big bigger. There is something just super creepy about this top image – I think its the lack of brows.. and expression. Just super creepy.

DSCN3401

Here I’ve re-arranged the mask so theres less air pockets. It looks less creepy too. Shout out to my main man Thomas (the seal in the background) for making an appearance in todays blog post!

DSCN3403

Here I am with my trusty cat pillow ready for a good nights sleep! I made sure to leave a little bit extra space around my nose – I was a little worried of suffocating – spoiler alert, I’m alive!

The only down side I can see to sleeping with it on, is I don’t know when to do my night time skin care – usually I do it before bed, but I didn’t want to interrupt the mask. I think next time I’ll just have to take a nap with it on. Ahh, the things I do for the blog!

Monthly #InstaThrowBack – April

April! The month, not the girls name. Its been and gone! Here’s a little recap of what I’ve been up to.

I enjoy doing posts like this instead of a standard ‘Monthly Favourites’ post. I feel like theres less pressure to love products and hype them up without fully testing them. And this way, you get to have a little sneaky peaky (not that sneaky, its posted all online anyway) into my life.

Personal/Blog Account: @ProcrastiCaitlan

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 11.01.40 AM

In a sense, April was almost a business-esque month for me. Things with my job kicked it up a notch and things in my blogging life have started to expand. I posted a new YouTube video this month and it honestly felt so good to get back into that. I just wish I had the time to keep it up. Three blog posts a week, plus the numerous instagram accounts I manage is quite time consuming, when topped off with full time uni and part time work.

April held the date for a Yelp event all about my city! Loving the South Australian / Adelaide produce. The RADelaide Love Affaire was so much fun to attend. I got to go with my two best babes and we had just a fun night out exploring SA’s finest.

I began to work with a company this month too. I’m still a very small person in this world wide web but I am happy to be working with them. Keep an eye out for some posts coming up about the company and their products. I’ve already mentioned it in a post and its here in some insta snaps too. Kismet Jardin. I look forward to showing you their stuff!

Lastly for my personal side of life, it was mothers day. I had a heap of gift guide posts up for you guys, if you were stuck with what to spoil your mum with. I went home to my little home town to spend the day with my mum. It was really nice and good to visit home again.

Beauty Account: @Lust_At_First_Swatch

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 10.58.08 AM

I’ve been trying to up my instal-game for a while now and I think I’m finally figuring out something that works for me. My biggest issue is that I don’t want to do the same as everyone else – be it lay out or content – which is hard. On my beauty instagram I toyed with a theme idea, but mostly I tried taking photos that were still pretty and practical but a little bit different and I really like how they turned out.

You’ll notice too that I cut my hair – a very big decision / spur of the moment thing for me. I’m loving it, but I still miss my long (long long long long) hair. I god a fair few re-posts from some companies that I love, in April. Which made me super happy. I’m glad my content is getting recognised and shared.

Makeup wise, I’ve been enjoying taking shots of my eye makeup (like the first picture in this set) and posting them. Getting shots of eye makeup is SO TRICKY! The lighting, the angles, making sure it looks the same as it does in real life! PSH too hard! But I’m trying, so keep and eye out for some pics like that – if thats your thing.

And this has been my monthly recap / #InstaThrowBack. What did you guys get up in in April? I’d love to know, it can be anything you did, or a product that you got or just proud of a selfie! (I know I am), I’d love to check out your links.

Mask of the Month: BE Peel-Off Facial Mask Week 2 Review

Time for week two! I’ve had the worst cold this week and honestly didn’t feel like putting anything on my face, but I’m trying to be dedicated with these posts. I used the same mask again this week, even though I had a less than enjoyable experience last week, but I’m determined to try and get this to work!

The lowdown:

  • Price: $5.99 Priceline
  • Target/Aim: ‘…to remove dead skin cells from the skin and unclog pores’
  • Skin¬†Type: Doesn’t specify.
  • Smell: There isn’t really a smell, although it does kind of smell like glue. The scent is meant to be ‘pomegranate’ but I don’t smell it at all.
  • Texture: Thick, sticky, smooth. It reminds me of the hot wax when I get my brows done. Obviously, this product isn’t hot.
  • Colour: Bright Pink!
  • Directions:¬†“Cleanse face with your favourite BE Cleanser, and dry in preparation for the mask.¬†Apply a thin, even layer of the mask to yourface and neck, avoiding the delicate eye area, lips and hair. Leave the mask on to dry for around 15 minutes or until completely dry. Once dry gently peel away the mask from the face. Do not pull away quickly. Wash off any remaining pieces of the mask with warm water. Pat face and neck dry.¬†Use once weekly or as required.”
  • Application: I used my fingers to apply this, I think it is far too sticky to be used by a brush. Perhaps a small popsicle stick applicator would be better here. I applied the mask in a different area this week as last week was so painful to remove. I aimed for cheeks and forehead and across the T-zone. Keeping away from any peach fuzz baby hair areas.
  • Dry Time:¬†Anywhere from 5-15 minutes
  • 5 mins in:¬†As mask begins to set my skin feels tight, no irritation.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Almost fully set, still no irritation.
  • Just before removal:¬†When the mask is fully dry/set it looks shiney and kind of feels like wrinkly skin.
  • Removal process:¬†I didn’t have the agonising experience as last week, however it still hurt a little in the top corners of the mask where the edges met my skin. The chin and nose area didn’t hurt much, because I’m used to doing pore strips/the skin is a little more resilient in those areas.
  • Instant results:¬†There was still some redness, around my eyebrow area.
  • 10 mins after:¬†No real lingering redness like last week. No irritation.
  • Next morning:¬†My skin felt soft-ish, nothing to write home about. The only reason I feel like it does anything is because it basically rips your dead skin off. I can achieve that kind of result from exfoliating – and there is way less pain in that.
  • Visible change:¬†Slightly fresher looking skin.

What the packaging says:

“A refreshing Peel-Off Facial Mask which works to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and unclog pores to reveal a freshand radiant complexion. Includes Pomegranate extract, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and for fighting free radicals in the skin, and Vitamin E for its soothing and smoothing effects.”

1

This week I left more space around the edge of my hairline and I didn’t join the mask all the way up. The areas I left free are the ones that hurt the most last week and I wasn’t doing that to myself again. This week it was still a little painful to remove.

2

Starting the removal process from the ‘inside – out’ works better I think. I begin to flick the edges around my mouth and nose first and peel the mask away.

3

The mask itself is quite heavy duty. It takes a lot for it to actually rip. So taking it off can be in one whole piece or two. It makes cleaning up easier. However the little parts that stay stuck on your face are annoying to remove, you can either peel them off or wash them off with warm water. Putting warm water on your face after this mask is a little uncomfortable so peeling would work better, but they’re kind of hard to get off so your either giving yourself more pain or waiting around with pink on your face.

Because the mask is so sturdy, next week I will be using it as a pore strip and see how that goes.

Pro Tips:¬†Do not put this anywhere near hair lines. I am hesitant to use it again. I think this time I will only focus it in the centre of my face and not in any ‘peach fuzzy’ areas.

Do you have this mask? Do you know how to make it work? I’d love to hear your experiences.

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Top makeup tips for when you’re sick

Obviously no one likes being sick, but unfortunately its going to happen. As my luck would have it, day one of my uni ‘holidays’ started out with me coming down with the most horrid version of the ‘common cold’. Now usually I’d just let it run its course (for me, its a two week minimum of aches, pains and phlegm – beautiful, I know) but I have a heap of stuff to do during this study break including birthdays, events and even a wedding so I had to look better than I felt at the time. I’m here to share with you some basic tips and tricks about how to wear makeup when you’re sick.

For me, the least amount of product on my skin, the better I feel. I try to keep makeup simple and if possible away from the three danger zones of sickness – lips, nose and eyes.

My eyes are a watery mess when I’m sick so a lack of makeup is fantastic, I can’t recommend waterproof liner and mascara enough! If you are going to go with some shadows I suggest a really blown out smokey look (doesn’t have to be black). The more diffused the colour is, the less obvious it will be that you’ve wiped some away with the tears coming from your eyes from coughing so much. (you think I’m kidding?)

The only time my lips get chapped is when I’m sick. I find myself¬†doing a lot of mouth breathing (*cringe) because my sinuses are more congested the peak hour traffic in the city. My lips split, and crack and its just a painful ordeal. I never use a matte lipstick when my lips are bad like this. Its just adding salt to the wound. I tend to go with a balm (chapstick is your friend) or a gloss – the only time I opt for gloss is when I’m sick. Its low maintenance and it helps the lips. YES! If I’m going somewhere that requires lippy, I opt for a cream finish. Rimmel London – Moisture Renew lipstick line is fantastic.

Having a runny nose is annoying at the best of times, but having to wear makeup AND having a runny nose is just adding insult to injury. My tip for this is to blow your nose like theres no tomorrow before doing your makeup – sounds obvious but seriously, do it. Pretend you’ve got the trumpet solo in the jazz band and blow that horn, honey! When you’re ready to apply makeup you’ve got a few options: Just a powder, if you don’t NEED full coverage then don’t bother with it, Liquid foundation – Put it over your face as per usual, but when you get to the nose (nostril area) blend it out so there isn’t much there. If its lightly applied on purpose and it looks fine, it won’t look stupid when you’ve more than most likely rubbed at it with tissues. Instead of looking like Rudolf you look a little rosey, Concealer – if you don’t want foundation, but want coverage, just use concealer, blend it out so it doesn’t look too patchy and go from there – depends on what ‘event’ you’re wearing the makeup for.

This is the before and after. I wasn’t going anywhere that I needed full coverage – just nipping out to lunch with a gal pal and doing a bit of shopping.

No eye shadow. Waterproof mascara, liquid liner in brown – not black. Defined brows. Glossy lips. Concealer and powder – no liquid foundation.

Something else that I like to do, I like to rub some ‘vaporising ointment’ Vicks VapoRub. just under my nose – only a small amount. Just so it keeps my nose somewhat usable. A small amount shouldn’t be detectable by others – just mask with with perfume!

It is important to put colour back into your skin. You might think blush isn’t needed but you can become quite washed out when you’re sick so adding in a little flush of colour to the cheeks can really help make you look like you’ve got a pulse and not an extra for ‘The Walking Dead’.

As it turns out, I had an event that I had RSVP’d to so I needed to turn that basic makeup into a bit more of a glam situation. I kept to the same rules. Even though I am wearing more makeup than before, its still light on my nose, I’ve primed my lips with balm all day so wearing a ‘matt-er’ lip isn’t such an issue. Adding blush to bring colour back to my cheeks, adding highlighter to bring some ‘natural glow’. With all these little things, I don’t really look sick at all! Despite feeling like I was dying and coughing so loud I sound like a baby seal…

The term ‘fake it, ’till you make it’ applies here. If you pretend you’re well, and smile and try your hardest, it will show through. Even if you sound like a ‘pack-a-day’ smoker. (me).

Don’t forget that wherever you go you always take a mini pack of tissues, lozenges, cold and flu meds and lip balm!

Do you have any makeup tips for when you’re sick? Or just any tips on how to survive sickness I’d love to know! I can’t wait to kick this cold to the curb!
