BUAxLUSH 1st Birthday Event Recap

If you’re an Australian Blogger and you’re not apart of Bloggers United AU then you are missing out.

I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about Bloggers United AU before, and I bet you all know what LUSH is so to my delight I was invited to a somewhat exclusive event involving two of my favourite things! Bloggers and Bath goodies!

If you want to read about other BUA and LUSH events just click those links!

To save this post turning into an Oscars acceptance speech, I’ll get the “Thank you’s” out of the way now. A MASSIVE thank you to LUSH Marion for having us and a sincere heartfelt thank you to Bloggers United AU and especially our state reps Kate and Nici. They’ve done so much to unite the Adelaide bloggers and as corny as it sounds I actually feel apart of something. *play the music* I’d also like to thank: Jesus, my mum and all of you lovely people, WE DID IT!

The Event:
We were welcomed by the team at LUSH Marion some of whom I recognised from the previous event (they even recognised lil’ ol’ me) and I was complimented right away on my lipstick. (Jeffrey Star’s Blue Velvet). As I mentioned before, the event was somewhat exclusive the numbers were set by the store (so I’ve been told) and I think there would have been 15 of us in total. There was a lovely LUSH lady writing out name-tags for us as we entered. BEST. IDEA. EVER. I recognised nearly everyone from their blogs and instagram feeds but I couldn’t remember their actual name! (for some). It was mingle time and that meant PHOTOS!

I got to hang out with these two gorgeous ladies! To the left is Ren from Ren Nay, super lovely lass, and to the right is über babe Zoe from Zoesbeautyescape.

The lighting in the store was great for products but atrocious for photos. The lights are all warm and most of them are down-lights. This meant we were all quite orange toned and horrid shadows were cast across our faces. Never the less, the selfie spree continued! This time bringing in Steph from Howtogirl.net. It was so nice to finally meet her after talking through instagram so much!

I was so happy to finally get a chance to use the big ‘Adelaide Event’ cut out after seeing it so much at the BUA event back in Feb.

It was now time for the talks! Each time there is a LUSH event they (obviously) tell you about the company. I find it fascinating to know all the different ingredients that are in the LUSH products. We had a short talk from each of the staff about certain products, learning all kinds of facts!

Products mentioned were, Bananas, Avocado, Honey(cute pic coming up), Roses, Almonds, and even Potatoes!

As we were passing around the honey to smell, Ren was clearly too keen and kept my fingers captive. I was just scared I was gonna drop it. :/

The super kind and knowledgable team from LUSH Marion! You guys are great!

The Hunt:
Once the talk was over, it was time for a little competitive fun. We all teamed up (I was with Ren and Zoe) and we were each given a list of products to find – scavenger hunt style!

“Hey girls, look like you’re searching but you can’t find the stuff” Well, we can’t take artistic direction.

Someone obviously has to win, and in the end it was the Steph and Felicia – from thebeautyandthegeekau! Celebratory selfies, winners are grinners girls! These two were on fire when it came to the scavenger hunt, they won by a tie breaker. Great effort!

Shopping Time:
Once the Scavenger hunt was over we had free reign over the store to shop till we dropped! It was really good to get time to wanter through LUSH it’s always so busy! But because there was just the small group of us, we had time with the staff to get a decent consultation if we needed and they were more than happy to offer any advice. Last event I picked up some shampoo and conditioner because at the time, my hair was beyond dry! But since cutting my hair I haven’t needed the extra care, so I decided to go with some skincare instead! I’ll be doing a seperate post about my LUSH Haul! So keep your peepers peeled! I do have to say thank you to Tom for helping me and for being super honest about what products to get. (:

Its just not right unless you smell everything!

Once we’d finished shopping, it was time for some last minute silly selfies! We took the opportunity to selfie with the BUA board. We got caught mid selfie by the photographer so the next two shots are like ‘Selfie-Ception’.

It was so nice to have a photographer there, taking great group shots etc, so we didn’t always have to be holding phones, cameras and trying new products.

Forever in the search for good lighting! The last few snaps and that was it!

This is now the background on my phone: ❤

I’m so glad to be apart of a group of likeminded people. I’m so excited to network and attend future events.

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Birthday Makeup!

My birthday was on the 19th of January and the week surrounding that date was filled with birthday dinners and catch ups with friends and family. Some dinner events others brunch and lunch. In this post, I’ll share with you the different makeup looks I wore to the different occasions.

Dinner and bowling with family: On Friday the 15th of Jan I had the first of many ‘Birthday’ dinner/catch ups. This was a chilled out bowling shesh with my brother, sister and her partner and my mum and her partner. We caught up for bowling (which I’m terrible at) which is always our go-to catch up activity, followed by dinner at TGIFriday’s. I was greeted with many hugs and presents and was forced to open them right away (my worst fear). We then got our sexy bowling shoes and proceeded to get our bowl on! I have no technique really and suck at bowling so we usually put the bumpers on for added fun, however we forgot to ask so we all had to rely on skill… My first turn I bowled a strike. Thankyah jeezus! I was winning for the majority of the game but in the end everyone else caught up, it was so much fun though. It was dinner time now so we walked up to the restaurant and were shown to our seats. I knew exactly what I was getting and knew exactly what kind of drink I wanted! One of the ULTIMATE cocktails! We chatted and laughed our way through dinner. We then waddled across the square to San Churro’s Chocolateria for dessert/coffee (not that any of us needed it! We were so full! We all kind of shared the little things we got. Kris bought me a huge pack of macaron’s (my favourite) as a birthday present. We then rolled our way out of there and said our goodbyes. It was a really nice night to start off the birthday celebrations!

Makeup: I wanted to keep it fun and colourful. We weren’t going anywhere ‘fancy’ so I didn’t feel the need to ‘tone it down’, but, in saying that I didn’t go over the top anyway.

Now for  some awkward selfies.

day1

I knew I wanted to wear orange lipstick. Its one of my favourite colours to wear, and I knew I didn’t want that to be the only pop of colour so I paired it with a teal blue ‘under liner’. I had a fairly simple gold/neutral eye look going on and thought that would be fine and it was! I added some fun lashes and was all set!

Dinner and hanging out with friends: On Saturday the 16th we had dinner plans for a friends dinner because it is my friend Zoe’s birthday the day after mine so it was ‘her birthday catchup’ that I mooched in on. Sharing is caring! We’re all apart of the same friend group so thats ok. We went out for dinner at one of our favourite restaurants ‘Genghis Kahn – Mongolian BBQ’. Its great the atmosphere is awesome and the cooking style is fantastic.

After dinner we went to Gelato Bello for dessert – its becoming a little tradition that we go there after a meal and I’m totally OK with that! When we were chatting over our delicious desserts we made a group decision to catch up for some drinks at Zoe’s place. Its her new unit and not many people had been there so we thought that’d be a good idea!

More awkward selfies:

day2

I wanted to do something fun. Everyone in the group knows that we (me, Sarah and Zoe) are into makeup so I didn’t feel out of place for going bold! I loved this look and might do re-create it again!

Dinner with my fiancés family: On Sunday the 17th we went out for dinner at Beyond India. It was another ‘joint’ birthday celebration as Kris’ brother’s fiancée also has a January birthday a few days before mine. We had a big Indian banquet and some delicious wine and I might have gotten a little tipsy but I’m so comfortable around Kris’ parents that it isn’t an issue of me embarrassing myself – they know I’m a weirdo! (:

realday3For makeup I wanted to go purple again, but darker, kind of matching the colours in my outfit. I decided against lashes tonight I’d worn them two nights in a row and wanted to give my eyes a break. I still loved how the makeup turned out (even if I was a hot mess – it was so hot that night).

______________________________________________________

Brunch with family: Finally on my actual birthday Tuesday the 19th (I had Monday to sit and bloat because of all the dinners I’d been having) I had arranged to have brunch with my dad, grandma and brother. We went to a little café and had coffee and cake (I had a lime milkshake but who cares). It was nice to catch up with them, the last time we saw each other was Christmas. We had a slice of cake (calories don’t count on your birthday, right?) and chatted until it was time for more birthday fun.

My friends and Kris had arranged to meet me at our favourite sushi place for lunch. So we scoffed down food and made plans for the rest of the day: Shopping and shows! We went back to my place and the girls and I caught up on our favourite shows and had some wine and just chilled out – it was seriously so nice. Friends were coming and going all day so by the time dinner time came around it was just Kris and I and our friend Lucy who were available for dinner – we went to our favourite little cafe/bistro for some dinner (not like we needed it) and then came home and played some board games with friends who’d arrived as we got back!

day4CB

I wanted to keep it fairly neutral and classic as I was going to be out all day. I didn’t wear lashes again because I didn’t think they were brunch with grandma appropriate and I was going to be out all day anyway. I went for a nude lip colour, one that I didn’t care if it faded because its almost my natural lip colour anyway so low-maintinance lips for a day of eating is great! I used the Carli Babel palette for my makeup and I LOVE it.

I had an absolutely amazing time celebrating my birthday with friends and family!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Beauty Wishlist – Birthday Edition

Christmas is followed by the New Year and the New Year is followed by one of the most important dates that should be in your social calendar, the 19th of January, MY BIRTHDAY!

I do a wish list yearly not as a big neon sign for everyone to buy me presents (I’m like the grinch of my birthday) but as a list to me to say “these are some things that you want and when you’ve done something you’re proud of tick something off this list as a reward!” Basically it justifies my spending in some way, but it seems to be working. Anyway, heres the list!

Urban Decay: Vice 4 Palette

i-022545-urban-decay-vice-4-1-940

I’ve been obsessing over this palette since I first saw the swatches. It’s a limited edition palette and also $98.00 which hurts my soul a bit so if I don’t get around to owning it, I won’t feel so bad, but its just so beautiful, the shades in the palette and the packaging. Its so pretty and I’d love to own it.

The Balm: Mary-Lou Manizer

mary-lou manizer

Now that The Balm is available at Target, it is easier to get my hands on this gorgeous gal. I’ve been wanting to step up my highlighter game for a while now and everybody raves about this product and I’ve swatched it a gazillion times so I know I’ll be adding this to my collection sometime soon.

NARS: Velvet Matte Lip Pencils – Cruella

i-000492-velvet-matte-lip-pencil-collection-cruella-1-378

Who doesn’t love a good lip product, am I right? There are about 12 shades of these lip pencils and from the first time I saw a swatch of the shade Cruella I knew I had to have it! Its the perfect red colour and I want it so bad!

Too Faced: Chocolate Bar Palette

choc

This palette is a cult classic and such a favourite for everyone that owns it, I need it in my collection. I’ve heard the semi-sweet palette is good but not better? I’m not sure, but I’d like to get that one eventually too. Its just so pretty!

Hourglass: Ambient Lighting Palettei-017068-ambient-powder-wardrobe-1-940

I’d really wanted to get the 6 in 1 hourglass palette but with a price tag of $117.00AUD and a dramatic size difference, I’d decided that it wasn’t worth it. However, I’d still really like to try some hourglass products.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

new-starter-kit-pan-layout_3

The hype behind these is extensive and I want to jump aboard the train so bad! Everyone I know who owns MUG shadows absolutely loves them! This year I’d like to start up a collection of my own! However, I might wait until they have their ‘free shipping’ sales because shipping is always a killer!

Inglot Eyeshadows: Freedom System

Screen Shot 2016-01-13 at 10.10.48 pm

I’ve only started to fill in my Flexi Palette from inglot with their AMAZING shadows but I’d like to fill this half with neutrals and the other half with my favourite pops of colour, eventually filling two palettes (neutrals/colours). I wish Inglot got more recognition for their amazing products!

And there you have it! This is all I can think of for a ‘beauty’ wish list for my birthday (/up coming year of purchases)! If you have any beauty loves that you think I’d like, let me know in the comments!

Its good to be back to blogging now that the new year is underway. I hope to be back to my regular routine soon! I’ve got a heap of products to swatch and review and I’m pretty excited about that!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:
