Mask of the Month: Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Final Review.

I’ve decided since I have nothing bad to say about this mask, this will be my final review and I’ll have some related posts coming up for the remainder of the month! Exciting – I know.

The lowdown:

  • Price: $19.99¬†Priceline,¬†Woolworths, $15.99 at¬†Chemist Warehouse, $22.00¬†Coles¬†($14.00 sale price). Pack contains 5 masks – approx $4.00 per mask.
  • Target/Aim: ‘… to¬†provide long lasting moisture to help skin look hydrated, radiant and glowing’
  • Skin Type: Suited for¬†Dry Skin¬†but aimed at any skin that needs moisture.
  • Smell:¬†The smell is somewhat like cherry medicine scent – like the rest of the Hydro Boost range. It doesn’t linger nor do I find it unpleasant.
  • Texture:¬†Each is a stretchy cloth mask that feels slippery and like gel.
  • Colour: White and the gel is clear.
  • Directions:¬†“To use, remove mask and unfold gently stretching the fabric cloth to cover your entire face, press lightly with finger tips to set in place and relax for 15 minute allowing the essence nourish your skin. Ideal for use at night, once the fabric mask is removed the concentrated formula works beneath the skin to continuously hydrate whilst you sleep.”

What the packaging says:

Use after cleansing, open pack, take out mask and unfold.
Gently stretch the mask leftwards and rightward to cover your entire face.
Press lightly with fingertips to set in place over face. Relax for 15mins and remove mask. Manage remaining maskhydrating essence on face. There is no need to rinse off the essence. Discard the sheet after use. Ideal for use at night.

New Information:

  • Application:¬†I’m getting better at applying it now. I’m not being so delicate with it and I’m really impressed at how it hasn’t ripped.
  • Dry Time:¬†I kept this mask on for 20 – 25 minutes
  • 5 mins in:¬†Still haven’t gotten used to the cold shock of when I apply it. But because I was just relaxing playing xbox and not really moving my mouth etc around much, I didn’t have an issue with the moustache strip becoming loose.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Still nice and stuck to my face!
  • Just before removal:¬†Once I felt like I’d had enough of the mask, I simply peeled it off. Easy Peasy!
  • Removal process:¬†Easy Peasy!
  • Instant results:¬†My skin felt super nice and squidgy, like always.
  • 10 mins after:¬†I wanted to see how well this mask worked with other products so I used the night cream from the Hydro Boost line with this mask. It felt so good!
  • Next morning:¬†I think because I used the night cream as well, my skin was just in hydro heaven.
  • Visible change:¬†Skin is very supple. No dry areas.

DSCN3419

I’m becoming desensitised by the freaky-ness of this mask. I really love the Hydro-Boost sheet masks. Used in conjunction with the other products from this line I can see that my skin will just love me for it.

I used the night and day moisturiser this time with the mask and can’t wait to do a review of all the products at once! They’re perfect for people with dry skin or just anyone who needs a moisture boost! With winter coming up I think a moisturising mask once a week can really improve things!

I’ll be doing a full review on the range soon!

Tonight I played some xbox with my partner. We played a few games – it was really fun. One in particular called ‘Cactus’ that I really liked. It reminds me of ‘Hero’s Duty’ from Wreck it Ralf mixed with ‘Sugar Rush’ also from WiR. The characters are all super cute girls with guns and its a basic top down shooter game. I think I might do a review of it. So keep an eye out for that in the future if you’re interested.

Here are a few photos from the game. Its really fun and easy to play for someone who might not be as experienced.

Thank you so much for reading! Don’t forget:

Mask of the Month: Neutrogena Hydro-boost week 2 review

Back at it again with the white face mask! This time I slept with it on! keep reading to see my results. This is such a fun mask! Such little effort but such good results!

  • Application:¬†This week I didn’t care so much about getting the mask smooth on my face, I didn’t care if it was wrinkled, I just wanted to make sure that there was no air pockets like last time.
  • Dry Time:¬†This time I slept with it on. Which turned out better than I thought.
  • 5 mins in:¬†When you first apply this, its so cold, so that kind of woke me up a bit, but after a few minutes, its room temperature because of your body heat. It feels refreshing.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Because I’m laying down, the strip between my nose and lip wasn’t such a big issue.
  • Just before removal:¬†So I slept with it on for approx 7 hours and it actually went really well, I thought it’d fall off in the night and I’d end up with a soggy pillow, but that wasn’t the case! Because the gel and the fabric work well together it is the right amount of ‘sticky’ and it didn’t slide around my face at all!
  • Removal process:¬†Super easy!
  • Instant results:¬†My skin felt so supple. A good kind of squidgy? I could feel the moisture being sucked in by my dry skin. It was a nice way to wake up with nice fresh skin.
  • 10 mins after:¬†I was running late this morning so I went straight into my skincare and makeup routine. Makeup applied really nicely over the fresh skin.
  • Next morning:¬†N/A
  • Visible change:¬†It seemed to counteract some redness and obviously my dry patches weren’t so bad.

This mask contains 6x more hyaluronic acid (the moisture stuff) than the hydro-boost serum. (which I also own) so I’m pretty keen on getting some supple skin!

DSCN3400

I’d just applied the mask here, and as you can see there are air pockets around the eye area and bridge of the nose. This is something that I wanted to try and stop. So I re arranged it. I also thing it looks better when the eye cut outs are a big bigger. There is something just super creepy about this top image – I think its the lack of brows.. and expression. Just super creepy.

DSCN3401

Here I’ve re-arranged the mask so theres less air pockets. It looks less creepy too. Shout out to my main man Thomas (the seal in the background) for making an appearance in todays blog post!

DSCN3403

Here I am with my trusty cat pillow ready for a good nights sleep! I made sure to leave a little bit extra space around my nose – I was a little worried of suffocating – spoiler alert, I’m alive!

The only down side I can see to sleeping with it on, is I don’t know when to do my night time skin care – usually I do it before bed, but I didn’t want to interrupt the mask. I think next time I’ll just have to take a nap with it on. Ahh, the things I do for the blog!

Pre Thoughts:

I’m really excited to try this! I’ve been super keen to try a sheet mask. I’m looking forward to using a product aimed at moisture as I do have quite dry skin. I hope this will be a no mess mask as the others have been a little messy.

Have you ever used a sheet mask? I can’t wait! Let me know how you went!

Mask of the Month: BE Peel-Off Facial Mask Week 2 Review

Time for week two! I’ve had the worst cold this week and honestly didn’t feel like putting anything on my face, but I’m trying to be dedicated with these posts. I used the same mask again this week, even though I had a less than enjoyable experience last week, but I’m determined to try and get this to work!

The lowdown:

  • Price: $5.99 Priceline
  • Target/Aim: ‘…to remove dead skin cells from the skin and unclog pores’
  • Skin¬†Type: Doesn’t specify.
  • Smell: There isn’t really a smell, although it does kind of smell like glue. The scent is meant to be ‘pomegranate’ but I don’t smell it at all.
  • Texture: Thick, sticky, smooth. It reminds me of the hot wax when I get my brows done. Obviously, this product isn’t hot.
  • Colour: Bright Pink!
  • Directions:¬†“Cleanse face with your favourite BE Cleanser, and dry in preparation for the mask.¬†Apply a thin, even layer of the mask to yourface and neck, avoiding the delicate eye area, lips and hair. Leave the mask on to dry for around 15 minutes or until completely dry. Once dry gently peel away the mask from the face. Do not pull away quickly. Wash off any remaining pieces of the mask with warm water. Pat face and neck dry.¬†Use once weekly or as required.”
  • Application: I used my fingers to apply this, I think it is far too sticky to be used by a brush. Perhaps a small popsicle stick applicator would be better here. I applied the mask in a different area this week as last week was so painful to remove. I aimed for cheeks and forehead and across the T-zone. Keeping away from any peach fuzz baby hair areas.
  • Dry Time:¬†Anywhere from 5-15 minutes
  • 5 mins in:¬†As mask begins to set my skin feels tight, no irritation.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Almost fully set, still no irritation.
  • Just before removal:¬†When the mask is fully dry/set it looks shiney and kind of feels like wrinkly skin.
  • Removal process:¬†I didn’t have the agonising experience as last week, however it still hurt a little in the top corners of the mask where the edges met my skin. The chin and nose area didn’t hurt much, because I’m used to doing pore strips/the skin is a little more resilient in those areas.
  • Instant results:¬†There was still some redness, around my eyebrow area.
  • 10 mins after:¬†No real lingering redness like last week. No irritation.
  • Next morning:¬†My skin felt soft-ish, nothing to write home about. The only reason I feel like it does anything is because it basically rips your dead skin off. I can achieve that kind of result from exfoliating – and there is way less pain in that.
  • Visible change:¬†Slightly fresher looking skin.

What the packaging says:

“A refreshing Peel-Off Facial Mask which works to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and unclog pores to reveal a freshand radiant complexion. Includes Pomegranate extract, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and for fighting free radicals in the skin, and Vitamin E for its soothing and smoothing effects.”

1

This week I left more space around the edge of my hairline and I didn’t join the mask all the way up. The areas I left free are the ones that hurt the most last week and I wasn’t doing that to myself again. This week it was still a little painful to remove.

2

Starting the removal process from the ‘inside – out’ works better I think. I begin to flick the edges around my mouth and nose first and peel the mask away.

3

The mask itself is quite heavy duty. It takes a lot for it to actually rip. So taking it off can be in one whole piece or two. It makes cleaning up easier. However the little parts that stay stuck on your face are annoying to remove, you can either peel them off or wash them off with warm water. Putting warm water on your face after this mask is a little uncomfortable so peeling would work better, but they’re kind of hard to get off so your either giving yourself more pain or waiting around with pink on your face.

Because the mask is so sturdy, next week I will be using it as a pore strip and see how that goes.

Pro Tips:¬†Do not put this anywhere near hair lines. I am hesitant to use it again. I think this time I will only focus it in the centre of my face and not in any ‘peach fuzzy’ areas.

Do you have this mask? Do you know how to make it work? I’d love to hear your experiences.

Mask of the Month: BE Peel-Off Facial Mask Week 1 Review

So its time for my week 1 review of this months mask! This is one I will defiantly have to work with in order for it to be something I’d go back to, but have a read of how I went!

The lowdown:

  • Price: $5.99 Priceline
  • Target/Aim: ‘…to remove dead skin cells from the skin and unclog pores’
  • Skin Type: Doesn’t specify.
  • Smell: There isn’t really a smell, although it does kind of smell like glue. The scent is meant to be ‘pomegranate’ but I don’t smell it at all.
  • Texture: Thick, sticky, smooth.
Wash off any remaining pieces of the maskwith warm water.Pat face and neck dry.¬†Use once weekly or as required.”
  • Removal process:¬†AGONY! I felt like I was waxing my face!
The mask is ready to remove when it starts to peel away from the face so I carefully started peeling. In the centre of my face was ok a bit rough, but much like a pore strip so it wasn’t so bad. HOWEVER, the outer edges clung to the peach fuzz on my face and it felt like it was ripping everything out. The mask didn’t meet my hair line, just like the packaging said and I didn’t use any fast peeling motions. It felt like it was pulling a layer of skin off. Any mask left on the skin can wash off with warm water and gentle rubbing motions.
  • Instant results:¬†Redness! My skin felt soft-ish, but I didn’t really care because of the pain I was in.
  • 10 mins after:¬†Still red. The redness lasted 2-3 hours.
  • Next morning:¬†Redness gone. My pores didn’t look any clearer. My skin felt soft and looked nice.
  • Visible change:¬†Slightly fresher looking skin.

What the packaging says:

“A refreshing Peel-Off Facial Mask which works to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and unclog pores to reveal a freshand radiant complexion. Includes Pomegranate extract, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and for fightingfree radicals in the skin, and Vitamin E for its soothing and smoothing effects.”

11

The mask is set, its shiney, and started peeling away from my face. All I did was gently pull it away. It feels strange (I think thats because its pink and kinda skin coloured), But around the chin and nose it didn’t hurt too bad.

12

As soon as I got past the cheek though, it started to hurt a lot! It was clearly stuck to my face and you can see how much it was pulling at my skin! I had to take a break for a while as you can see my face already going red. And let me tell you, my face doesn’t go red for any old reason. This was intense!

13

The aftermath. Redness. I thought it was a stain from the pink, but it didn’t stain my fingers after application or anything like that. This is irritation from the mask removal.
Pro Tips: Do not put this anywhere near hair lines. I am hesitant to use it again. I think this time I will only focus it in the centre of my face and not in any ‘peach fuzzy’ areas.

Do you have this mask? Did this happen to you? Let me know!

Mask of the Month: Beauty Essentials Renewed Peel-Off Facial Mask

The mask I will be focussing on for April is the ‘Beauty Essentials Renewed Peel-Off Facial Mask’. Beauty Essentials (BE) is an affordable brand and I’m pretty sure its exclusive to Priceline. I love peel masks and I’m pretty excited to give this a go and let you guys know my thoughts!

Leave the mask on to dry for around 15 minutes or until completely dry.Once dry gently peel away the mask from the face.Do not pull away quickly.Wash off any remaining pieces of the maskwith warm water.Pat face and neck dry.¬†Use once weekly or as required.”

Includes Pomegranate extract, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and for fightingfree radicals in the skin, and Vitamin E for its soothing and smoothing effects.”

Pre Thoughts:

I’ve not used this yet but I’m pretty keen to. I do enjoy a good peel mask and I hope I’ll like this one! I’ll be using it once a week as that is what is recommended. I am however a little worried that I might have some slight irritations because I have dry skin but we’ll just have to see! The fact that it kinda smells like glue is a little worrying too, but I’m sure it’ll be fine, right? Right?!

Let me know if you’ve ever used a peel mask, or even if you’ve used this mask and tell me what your experiences were with it!

Mask of the Month: SWISSE Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask

Welcome to the first instalment of my new Mask series on my blog. For the month of March I will be testing out the ‘Swisse Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask’ This mask went viral about a month or two ago in some beauty groups I’m in on Facebook and it sent everyone out buying a tub of this stuff and claiming their skin had never looked better but no one really gave a proper review so I thought if I wan’t to know the answers I might as well do it myself!

I’ve compiled a list of judging criteria. I hope to get a thorough review of each mask. This week shall be the introduction of the mask then the next two weeks will be me trailing it and letting you know my thoughts then the last week will be my full review.

Introducing the: SWISSE Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask with Charcoal and Kaolin Clay!

  • Price: $17.99 at Priceline ¬†$14.99 at Chemist Warehouse
  • Target/Aim: To detoxify and purify skin leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated
  • Skin Type: Combination Skin – Well suited for congested and blemish prone skin
  • Smell: It has a cherry/medicin scent like a faint smell of red starburst
  • Texture: Smooth can feel a little gritty once it starts to dry
  • Colour: Dark grey
  • Directions: “Apply to clean, dry skin.¬†Leave on for 10 minutes, or until the mask feels firm and dry, then rinse off with warm water.¬†Follow with your favourite Swisse natural oil and moisturiser.¬†Recommended for use once to twice per week”.

From what I’ve heard about this mask, it goes on dark grey and then dries to a light grey/white colour. The spots left dark on the skin are the pores and that is supposedly where the mask is doing its work. I don’t have ‘acne prone’ skin, however I do get quite large pores so if this mask can do something to clear them or even minimise them. That’d be great!

Let the great mask mayhem begin! Be sure to check back for my thoughts on using this mask for 1 week.
