Australis: ‘Liquid Strobe’ illuminating drops

A few months ago a spotted the new Australis liquid strobe illuminating/highlight drops in my local Priceline and jumped at the chance to try them. Having dry skin I love trying new cream and liquid products. They retail for $19.95 so they are a bit pricey if you’re going to get them both, or if you’ve got an extensive highlighter collection. If you don’t or if you just want them anyway and want to know what I think about them, then read on, dear friend, read on.

First Impression: Pretty but eh..

When I was swatching them on my hand, I instantly fell in love with them, they give off the prettiest natural sheen, no chunky glitter at all, but after a little while of rubbing the product in, I noticed it started to separate especially in the spot where I’d had foundation on my hand from previous swatches, – not cute. This put a halt on me wanting to use them on my face. I removed them with a makeup wipe and did another test, this time I used less product, made sure there were no oils on my hand and swatched again – success!

I wasn’t blessed with beautiful hands, so just imagine they’re food network quality hand model hands. The two shades are so pretty, I hope they come out with more to suit everyone as I can really only wear the pink shade. I wear both because I do what I want! But the gold one looks good when I have some kind of tan.

How I use it: Daily glow!

This is my go to glow for days when I’m not wearing any makeup – work, uni, errands. On days such as this I only do my brows, mascara and highlight. So here is a pic of me in my ‘every day’ glory – dry skin and freckles galore!

that nose highlight tho…
I mainly go for the forehead, tip of the nose, cupids bow (my favourite), chin and then cheek bones.

#sneakymirrorselfie (;

Tips and Tricks: apply sans sponge!

I found that using a small amount and blending it in with fingers works best, and then with your brush or beauty sponge just *dab* around the edges to blend it into foundation or skin.

The Product // Final thoughts:

The product has a silicone/slippy feel to it but it doesn’t feel gross on the skin. It has a pretty good liquid time before it sets so it gives you plenty of time to finesse it and work it into place. Adding little at a time to build intensity is my favourite way to use it. Once it sets it is in place for good! Doesn’t transfer or rub off and because its a liquid it doesn’t have that layer of powder look / feel. – for me thats great, my skin is like the Sahara desert, the less power the better.

These also look beautiful mixed in with other products – foundation, tinted moisturiser etc. Work well on the face and the body.

While its no lie that I love Australis products – I could probably do a full face with all A/C products, this is another great one and I think its worth trying out! Plus, the dropper applicator is super fun. Products with droppers are almost guaranteed to go home with me.

Things I’ve noticed: I’m a detective.

  • No smell
  • Easy to work with
  • Good amount of product for price
  • Glass jars – be careful
  • Not gloopy – product is quite thin
  • No chunky glitter

Let me know if you’ve used these or are thinking about purchasing. I’m nosey so tell me your life stories (:

Priceline Picks! 40% off Cosmetics Haul

I went in with high hopes and came out with low funds. Priceline, you’ve done it again!

If you’re still recovering from the madness that is the Priceline 40% off Cosmetics Sale, I don’t blame you, my girls and I (Sarah & Zoe) did a little pub-crawl style shopping spree. I hit up 4 stores to pick up a bargain and I am pretty happy with what I came out with. I’d made a list and I stuck to it. If I couldn’t get something I didn’t try and spend my money on something else in store. (I spend it on ice cream like an adult).

This is what I picked up in the sale!

After making my list on what I was aiming to get I hit up foundations first!

DSCN3257

L’Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Light Infusing Foundation – Shade: N1 Pure Pearl
$34.95 / $20.97

I’ve used this foundation and even though it looks darker than the rest it actually matches me perfectly! (which is strange) Those yellow undertones though… I’m not sure if this made me oily though (ALSO STRANGE BECAUSE MY FACE IS LIKE A DESERT) but I used a lot of cream products and didn’t really set my foundation with powder as much as I usually would so I’ll have to play around. From the one time I’ve used it, apart from those minor issues I really liked it!

Maybelline Super Stay 24hr Long Wear Foundation – Shade: 05 Light Beige
$24.95 / 14.97
I’ve not used this yet, but I have used Maybelline foundations in the past and really like them – so I’m keen to give this a go!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25  hr Full Cover Foundation – Shade 101 Light
$18.95 / $11.37
I picked up this foundation because it is my daily – go to foundation. It is a little on the lighter side because the next shade up is just too dark for me, but it mixes really well with other foundations if I need to lighten them and the coverage is great!

Next stop was concealers! I don’t wear a lot of concealer and it is something that I want to start branching out and using. Here’s the ones I picked up:

DSCN3258

Rimmel London Match Perfection Concealer – Shade: 101 Ivory
$13.95 / $8.37
This is one of my go to concealers. I don’t have a favourite concealer but this one seems to work really well when I use it!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser – Shade Fair
$18.95 / $11.37
I’ve heard really good things about this concealer from friends who use it and I’ve always been wanting to try it but whenever I go to get it its always sold out – that must mean its good, right? I’ve used this once already and really like it! I can’t wait to keep using it to see if it continues to impress me.

I only bought two items that I don’t classify as ‘base’ products and these are the new Revlon Ultra HD Lip Colours. I only got two shades – I know I’ll wear these. They’re not on the Priceline website so I can’t remember what the original price is so I’ll estimate it based on the 40% discount.

DSCN3259

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Colour – Shade: 610 Addiction (berry) Shade: 635 Passion (red)
$23.00 (approx) / $14.37
These were a little bit pricier than I thought, so I’m glad I only got too. From swatching them the formula looks really nice and wearable. I haven’t tried them on the lips yet so I’m yet to have a decent review. I’m pretty keen to try them though!

The last thing I picked up is the cream version of a powder highlight trio I already own. The creams are lighter than the powders and I’m curious as to how good their staying power is.

DSCN3260

Models Prefer Radience/Collection Ultimate Illuminating Palette – Type: Cream
$12.99 / $7.99
I’m really into the whole ‘strobing’ trend lately. I like having glowy skin and I really hope I can make this product work.

Thats it! I had the best day shopping with my friends, we went out for lunch, shopped our little legs off and then went out for ice cream because we deserved it! Did you get anything in the Priceline sale? If so link it below I’d love to check it out!

Mini Makeup Haul

I’ve been on a little bit of a ‘no-buy’ recently and I was doing so well! Only buying things that I needed, like refills etc. But that all ended when my friend went to Sydney and offered to buy me some things from Sephora if I wanted, while she was there. So before I could say TAKE MY MONEY I’d already decided on some things. I took this upon myself to do a little spending – nothing over the top, and here is what I picked up!

Starting with the Sephora purchases;
Tarte – Tartlette Palette
I’ve been lusting over this palette since I first saw it – I’ve really been digging matte shadows and as you probably know, this palette is entirely made up of matte shades! They’re just gorgeous and super wearable. I can’t wait to play with this and put some looks together!

Tarte – Tartlette In Bloom Palette
It might seem a bit over the top to some, to get both Tartlette Palettes and at $67-AUD a palette I can see why some people wouldn’t bother getting both. But, to me they are both two different and unique palettes and to be honest, I wanted them both – so I got them both! Again, I can’t wait to put some looks together! (I had no idea this photo was blurry until I uploaded it – sorry!)

It is kinda difficult to get Tarte in Aus but now with Sephora AUS we can, but because there is no Sephora in my state, I jumped at the chance of trying out this super talked about brand!

Bath and Body Works
There is finally a store in Aus! Even though its in an airport and not my state, but my friend stopped by there to pick up some things! I said I didn’t care what I got and to just surprise me. So that’s what she did! I’m so happy with the things she got me.

She picked up two travel sized items in the Tahiti Island Dream scent. I ADORE tropical scents so I’ve already fallen in love with these two! One is a body lotion and the other is a fragrance mist. Even though we’re heading into Autumn right now, I’m still going to smell like an island paradise!

Priceline:
Models Prefer Radiance Collection Powder Palette
I’m becoming slightly obsessed with highlighting. This whole ‘strobing’ thing is getting to me. I saw this and picked it up. I’ve now learned that it comes in cream form too so I think I might pick it up during the next Priceline sale to try it out. At $12.99 AUD you can’t really go wrong! I can’t wait to put these on my face. I think they’ll make beautiful eye shadows too!

Essence – I love extreme Waterproof Mascara!
There is no doubt that Essence do some of the best affordable mascaras. The bright pink packaged one is a cult favorite. I own it and love it. I picked this one up on a whim because I had a mascara emergency and at $5.75 (I think) AUD I thought, why not? I’ve used this mascara a few times now and I really like it! I think I’ll do a little essence post one day and feature some of my faves because there are some hidden gems from this brand!

Thank you so much to Zoe for spending my money for me and bringing me back all this beauty!

If you’d like to see any of these items featured in a post, let me know!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Priceline up to 60% off Fragrance Sale!

Priceline have been smashing out the sales lately! It feels like only yesterday I was writing up my skincare sale post. Nevertheless, there was a sale at Priceline and I found myself there by accident and spent money to smell pretty!

perfgroup

I picked up Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday, Beyoncé – Midnight Heat (repurchase) and Bvlgari – Omnia Crystalline (repurchase)

DSCN2888
Nicki Minaj: Pink Friday – 100ml

“This fragrance contains accords of boysenberry, lotus flower, mandarin, star fruit, and vanilla – with top notes of Mandarin, heartnotes of flowerily delicate tones, and dry down of musky, creamy scents. The bottle was designed to resemble Minaj as she appearson the cover her 2010 album Pink Friday.”

This perfume was not only on discount but on clearance too, so I picked it up for $14.50 instead of the full price of $79.00! I wasn’t even intending to get it, but my friends Sarah and Zoe both picked it up and we all joked about how we should all get it, I do really like the scent of it and it was the last one on display so I though, why not? So I picked it up! So now it is going to have a sentimental meaning whenever I wear it which I kind of love. ❤

DSCN2890
Beyoncé: Midnight Heat – 100ml

“Fragrance Notes: Dragon Fruit, Plum, Starfruit, Purple Mokara Orchid, Peony, Black Tulip, Amber, Patchouli, Sandalwood”

This perfume is a repurchase for me. Its fruity without being sickly sweet and kind of floral musky without being ‘dirty’ if that makes sense. This is usually a signature scent for me for the cooler months so this is just in time. This was also another clearance item and I picked the 100ml up for $7.50 instead of $69.00.

DSCN2892
Bvlgari: Omnia Crystalline – 65ml

“Created from the glowing clarity and purity of crystal, Omnia Crystalline is a luminous Eau de Toilette capturing the transparency of lotus flowers, the fruity freshness of nashi and the creaminess of balsa wood.

Olfactory Family: Floral Woody
Top Notes: Bamboo – Nashi
Heart Notes: Lotus Flower
Base Notes: Sandalwood”

Another repurchase and the only perfume I picked up ‘full’ price. (not on clearance just discounted). I fell involve with this scent when I was in France two years ago and two years ago for Valentines Day, my fiancé bought this for me as a gift (he really liked the scent, too). I picked this up with a 40% discount so instead of paying $89.00 I only paid $53.40. I will never not love this perfume and I will always repurchase it.

DSCN2896

I love perfume bottles and I always keep the ones that I’ve used up. I love the detail and how delicate some of them are. However, the cap for the Nicki Minaj bottle is her head and when the cap is removed it turns into one of the creepiest things ever. It reminds me of the babyhead spider from Toy Story.

Priceline 40% off Skincare Sale Haul

The first 40% off sale of the year has just been and gone at Priceline, did you pick anything up?

12626068_10153896604987929_207794129_n

Like most of these sales I have a mental list in my head, walk into the store then forget everything! I walked into Priceline with the intent on buying something, I got four things (3 from the same range) and one other that is probably one of the most talked about items of the moment for me and that is the Swiss Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask With Charcoal & Kaolin Clay. I’m in a few beauty groups on Facebook and about 2 weeks ago this was all any body was posting about. I don’t usually jump on the hype train but I love face masks, especially ones that I can put on, watch an episode or two of something, wait until it hardens and wash it off feeling refreshed and hope my skin doesn’t hate it! I’m yet to try this, but will let you know what I think!

The other items I picked up belong to the Neutrogena Hydro Boost range. I’ve talked about their day and night creams before (read it here) and have been eyeing off the rest of the range ever since. I recently picked up their sheet masks and I’ve fallen in love with them so I decided to pick up the remaining products from the range! I got the Moisturising Foaming Cleanser, Water Gel with SPF 15 UVA/UVB and the Eye Roll-On. I’ve not tried them on my face yet, only tested them on the back of my hand. They have the same satisfying scent as the other products and my hand has never felt so revitalised! If you have dry skin I highly recommend you try some products out from this range! Once I’ve used the products enough to know how they work / if they work I’ll be sure to do a post on the full range so if you’re interested make sure you stay tuned for that!

Swisse Manuka Honey Face Mask: $10.79 / $17.99AUD

Hydro Boost Cleanser: $8.99 / $14.99AUD

Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF 15: $14.99 / $24.99AUD

Hydro Boost Eye Roll-On: $11.99 / $19.99AUD

Original Cost: $77.96  Sale Cost: $46.76  Total Saving: $31.20

Review: Face of Australia – Perfect Nude Eyeshadow Palettes

I don’t know about you guys, but I love eyeshadow palettes, ‘drugstore’ or ‘high-end’ I can’t get enough of them. So whenever I find a new one that I really like, I get super excited to share it with you, and today, I have TWO!

Face of Australia have been coming out with a few new palettes lately and I picked these up toward the end of last year and have been using them for the past few months. They’re called the “Face of Australia – Perfect Nude Eyeshadow Palettes” and they’re available from Priceline. Each of these palettes retail for $18.95 AUD which I must say is a bit pricey, so if you’re on a budget I’d suggest getting only one of these palettes as they are quite similar. But if you’ve got the money to spend / want them because you’re a makeup hoarder like I am then I’m here to show the the subtle yet totally worth it differences these palettes have!

DSCN2756

As shown in the picture above, there are two palettes the ‘Nude’ and ‘Naked’ now this is kind of confusing a bit because the palettes are the ‘Perfect Nude Eyeshadow Palettes’ and one of them is called ‘Nude’. It confused me for a bit when I was purchasing them and trying to figure out the differences.

Packaging: These palettes are made from some pretty heavy duty plastic. They feel like good quality without being heavy. They’re also compact enough to take travelling and offer enough shadows you won’t need to carry much more makeup. They’re sleek and black and aren’t to ‘busy’ looking. The palettes also have a pretty decent sized mirror on the inside. The mirror can be arranged to be open standing without needing support. So its good to place on a surface and use that mirror instead of taking a portable mirror with you. (happy travelling) However, because of the palettes design they’re slightly curved so if the mirror is pushed back too far it will get top heavy and rock backwards.

DSCN2757

Each palette holds 15 shades and as you can see they’re quite similar. The left is the Naked palette and the right is the Nude. At a glance you’d think they’re the same palette, but if you look closer the ‘Naked’ palette has more of a gold neutral theme whilst the ‘Nude’ has a hint of rose shades. Both palettes have a mix of mattes, shimmer and pearl/satin finishes. The palettes also come with a double sided applicator, one side has a foam tip and the other is a small detail flat brush. I’ve used the brush side (I hate the foam things) a few times and they’re quite acceptable. I’m glad that companies are adding small brushes instead of JUST those foam applicators.

Some shades are more pigmented than others, the really glittery shades don’t have much payoff but I’m sure using some fix+ would change that. However they’re good if you’re wanting to top off your eyelid with just some glitter. I was surprised with the matte shades. Usually drugstore mattes are hard and powdery and don’t offer much pigment at all, but these mattes are creamy – a little fallout with some of the lighter shades – and have great pigmentation. The other shades have great pigment and are equally as creamy. The really glittery shades (lucky there are only a few in each palette) are the only let down. The shadows are quite easy to blend too; I was surprised at how easy it was to blend them through the crease area.

Swatches:

nude naked

Sorry for the quality of the photo, I had to take this with my phone, I couldn’t get the right angle with my big camera (blogger problems). There was no primer or fix+ used in these swatches. MOST of them show up on my very pale skin. For me the standout shade is the black from the ‘Naked’ palette. It is so hard to get a pigmented matte black from any company, and the fact that this is a ‘drugstore’ brand is amazing. This is one of the most pigmented black shadows I’ve come across.

DSCN2837
Slightly better shot of colours but bad shadows across the swatches.

I’ve used these palettes for the past few months now and I think you can do a few good looks just using the one palette. They are similar so if you have the chance to get in and look at one close up, I’d suggest it. Or if you’re more a gold fan than a rose fan (or vice versa) then grab the one that appeals to you! I was regretting getting both for a short time but now that I have both and know some good looks using both I’m glad I have them. These palettes are (maybe still are) a limited edition palette so if you’re interested I’d get in to your nearest Priceline quick or order online soon!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Priceline 40% off Cosmetics Haul

Priceline

Its the most, wonderful time…. of the year!

Its that time again where the holiday palettes start coming out, our bank accounts start crying and our favourite places start having some major sales! The 18th and 19th of November saw the massive cosmetics sale at Priceline – the two day event offers 40% off all cosmetics in store and online. A lot of people prepare for this sale (myself included) and I’m going to show you what I got and what I wasn’t able to pick up because it was already sold out!

I’ll start out with my wish list – what I was wanting to pickup the most:

  1. Models Prefer soft touch powder/s
  2. Maybelline Color Drama Lip pencils (I really wanted the nude)
  3. Face of Australia Translucent Powder
  4. Face of Australia Illuminator – Angle Mist
  5. Face of Australia Face Base Primer
  6. Australis Fresh and Flawless Pressed Powder (pale shade)
  7. Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation
  8. Australis ‘Show some cheek’ Blush
  9. Sally Hansen Nail Polish – Clear
  10. Savvy Blush
  11. Physicians Formula Liquid ‘Syrum’ Liner
  12. Sally Hansen eyelash curler
  13. Bourjois 16hr liquid liner
  14. Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

With that in mind, I set out shopping! I went with my two best friends Zoe (newbytobeauty) and Sarah (pastel sparkles) which was so great because we’ve been swamped with uni work lately and haven’t had a chance to hang out and go shopping all together in a long time. I was so excited to just be around two of my favourite people. We went to the city to go to the Priceline stores there. We went to a smaller one off Galwer Place in the city thinking that no one would think to go there – we were wrong. For the little ‘out of the way’ store it was pretty busy. I got hit with massive anxiety and got all frazzled and only picked up a few things from that store, although keeping in mind we were going to another Priceline afterwards. There were some things in this store that were sold out. Like: 1, 2, 4 and 12 from the list above. I’d decided I’d pick up the Bourjois liquid liner another time because I’d just got the Physicians Formula one and I’ve got a few at home that I love inc. my inglot gel liner. ❤ We went to the register and I had the chance to use my ‘priceline cash back’ coupon thing so I got $10 off the total price. YAY. It was time to rehydrate and chill because it was actually 37 degrees that day. We went to BOOST JUICE to get a Tropical Crush (the best thing ever) then we decided to go to the other Priceline in the Myer Centre. I picked up the rest of my list except for the Savvy blush because I’d not seen one I’d really wanted (they’re decently priced normally anyway) and the Face of Australia illuminator was sold out here too, sad times for me and I’d actually forgotten about the FOA Primer. It was time to leave the city, get out of the heat and play with all our new purchases! Zoe and I got a bus back to uni together and Sarah went to catch her train home. On the way back to uni was horrid, the bus was packed, I was sweating from places I didn’t even know I had! BUT Zoe and I ended up going out to dinner together because it was obviously way too hot to cook anything!

I ended up going back to Priceline on the 19th (day two of the sale) with my sister and picked up the two Face of Australia items that I’d missed out on at my local Priceline. I also got to chat with my favourite Priceline lady, so that is always a win in my book!

So in the end, I ended up being the proud new owner of:

969834_xlarge
Savvy by DB Nourishing Lip Liner: Dusty Rose
FOEANGEL
Face of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminator: Angel Mist
FOAFBP
Face of Australia: Face Base Primer
lash
Sally Hansen Eyelash Curler
light beige
Australis Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder: Light Beige
010
Rimmel Lasting Finish Liquid Foundation: 010 Light Porcelain
100ivory
Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation: 100 Ivory
SSCFame
Australis Show Some Cheek Blush: Fame
PFeyeboost
Physicians Formula Eye Booster Liquid Eyeliner
FOAPowder
Face of Australia Translucent Loose Powder
invisible
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polish: 100 Invisible

How did you go in the 40% off sale? I’d love to know what you picked up or if you recommend me getting anything from Priceline. As always..

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:
