LUSH and Oh Deer Sugar HAUL

If you’ve been a reader of my blog for some time, you will know that I love bath products. If you’re a new reader here today, SURPRISE! I love bath products! I recently (Along with my partner in crime – Zoe and partner in life – Kris) went a bit bath crazy in LUSH and Oh Deer Sugar. This little shopping spree was a mixture of ‘happy birthday & welcome home’ from Kris. So, heres the haul, y’all!

LUSH

I’m always talking about LUSH and how I love their products so Kris took me to my favourite LUSH store in the city. Some of the products are first timers whilst some are repurchases! Here’s what we picked up from LUSH.

Intergalactic bath bomb -$8.95, Blackberry bath bomb -$6.50, Dragons egg bath bomb -6.95, Avobath bath bomb -6.50

A cult classic, the LUSH bath bomb. You’re bound to find one that you like and that suits your sense of smell! We ended up getting another Blackberry one as Kris really liked the scent of it. Its not overly feminine smelling, and its not smothered in glitter. This bath bomb is BF approved!

Foot soak & fancy free -7.95

I’d only been back in the country for a day before this little adventure, and let me tell you, 6 weeks of walking around in boots really did a number on my feet, so I decided to give them a little TLC. Heres hoping this product will help!

Woosh shower jelly, Refresher shower jelly -$7.95 each

SHOWER JELLIES! the perfect mix of fun and science! Kris and I were both intrigued by this product so we picked some up, simple as that.

Oh Deer Sugar

“lets go to the place where it looks like food”. Thats Kris’ way of saying lets go to ‘Oh Deer Sugar’. It took me a while to figure it out, it wasn’t until Zoe started to giggle that I knew he’d asked her for help in where to take me shopping.

Coffee and Vanilla energiser body scrub -$19.00

After an onslaught of smells from the afternoon, Kris was hesitant to smell much more. I found this product on the shelf and knew he’s like it! An instant approval! Coffee lovers, keep a look out for this one!

Strawberry and Coconut exfoliator body scrub -$19.00

If you know the smell of an ‘Iced Vovo’ biscuit then just imagine that now because this is what the strawberry and coconut exfoliator reminds me of! Not overpoweringly sweet – I’m looking forward to using this.

Peachy Keen, peaches and cream shower moose -$26.00

It seems like there are peach scented products everywhere these days but that doesn’t bother me one bit, I love the smell, the taste and the colour of peach so as soon as I saw this I knew I had to have it. I love the ‘Shower Moose’ from ODS and can’t wait to try it in peach!
Candy Heart Bubble Bar

We went shopping the day after Valentines Day so there was some really cute themed products around. I instantly fell for these giant candy hearts! Unfortunately there were no more ‘Yes’ ones in stock, otherwise I would have grabbed it too. They smell so good and I can’t wait to use them!

This brings us to the end of the haul but to the beginning of me blogging again. I’ve got a lot I want to accomplish with the blog and I hope you’ll stick with me while I do it!

I’ll be reviewing all of these products so if there is something you’d like to see first let me know in the comments and I’ll bump it up the list.

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Range

Y’all should know by now that I’ve got dry skin all day every day, I’m a desert. With the cold weather now in full swing my already dry skin is becoming dehydrated (yay) so I’ve had to up the moisture intake to my epidermis. If you’ve got dry skin like me, or finding your skin is drying out due to the weather conditions and need some extra moisture, this post is for you!

Now, I’ve talked about these products in hauls and some got their own dedicated posts, but today I’m here to talk about my love for the Neutrogena Hydro-Boost range. The range consists of: Hydro Boost Mask 5 pack, Hydro Boost Water Gel (daily moisturiser), Hydro Boost Night Concentrate, Hydro Boost Eye Roll-On, Hydro Boost Moisturising Foaming Cleanser and Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF. It has come to my attention there is also a daily serum I don’t have that but its on my “get it now, get it now” shopping list. So today I’m going to talk about everything else.

daytimenighttime

When I use these products I try to use them day and night for at least a whole week before changing up my skincare again.

Hydro-Boost Skincare Routine

Morning:
CleanseDSCN3457

Hydro Boost: Moisturising Foaming Cleanser $14.99 Priceline.

Every morning I cleanse my face, its important to do this so you’re not layering makeup on top of a dirty face trapping in germs and nasties that can cause breakouts. The Hydro Boost cleanser is a foaming cleanser and unlike other cleansers in this form, it doesn’t leave my skin dry (it would be pretty redundant if it did).

DSCN3459

Someones a happy cleansing chappy. Usually I would do this step in the shower or over a basin, but today I do it for the blog! I work the cleanser into my skin using circular motions. I spend extra time focusing on the areas around my nose and jawline – ear area. I find this area gets neglected and can sometimes have a buildup of makeup. This product feels so silky in the skin and once rinsed off my face feels clean without feeling stripped of anything important.

ToneDSCN3461

Because there is no toner in the range, I thought I’d mention the one I use when I’m using this skincare. It is another Neutrogena product, I figure they’re the same brand so they should work well together. I switch between these two toners. I use the Pore Refining toner for when I’m having a more hardcore skincare regime. But when I’m using the Hydro Boost range, I use the alcohol-free toner. It doesn’t strip the moisturiser I’ve put into my skin.

DSCN3462

I use a toner soaked cotton round and gently wipe it over my face. Focusing on areas where my pores are the largest.

Eye CreamDSCN3464.JPG

Hydro Boost Eye Roll-On $19.99 Priceline

This squidgy tube has a metal ball that rolls around and spreads the product under the eye. Because the ball is cold, it works really well at soothing the puffiness that happens in the morning around the eyes. You can also use cold spoons to reduce redness and morning eye puff. To start with I didn’t think this product really did anything, but it actually makes me look more awake. The actual product itself is really nice and it helps greatly to moisturise my under eye area, which in turn makes makeup look so much nicer. It doesn’t take long for the cream to set and it works well underneath other products.

SPFDSCN3467

Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF $24.99 Priceline

SPF is something I’ve only recently been trying to incorporate into my skincare routine. It may not seem like such a big deal because we’re coming into winter now, but being in Australia with a high UV rating year round. You can never be too careful when it comes to protecting your skin. This is quite a thick product but blends into skin very easy.

MoisturiseDSCN3471

Hydro Boost Water Gel (daily moisturiser) 24.99 Priceline

I’ve talked about this product before and I still feel the same way. It gives my skin hydration without weighing it down and if used daily adds radiance and glow to the skin and makes it super soft to the touch. It has a fresh scent that reminds me of cherry medicine. The fragrance has never made me break out. Letting this product sink into the skin makes for such a smooth makeup application.

DSCN3469

This is the last step in my daily routine. I pat all the products into my face and then let them soak into my skin for about 10 minutes. This is a good time to have breakfast, brush teeth, or just sit in your towel from having a shower (I have done this on many occasion). I find that the products don’t linger on the skin or form a greasy film. They add a layer of protection between makeup and bare skin. I find that makeup applies really well and because of all the prep my skin has just gotten, I can wear more ‘matte’ finish products and powder my face to set things without the fear of anything clinging to my dry patches (basically my whole face.

MakeupDSCN3451

Don’t mind the goofy face. I find that because the skin is so drenched in moisturising products, it gives my face a ‘healthy glow from within’ finish. Products blend so effortlessly into my skin once I put in the prep work!

Night
Makeup Removal
DSCN3450

After a full day of makeup wear, my face is looking a bit less cute. My lipstick is basically gone and my eyeliner is starting to wear away and its just time to take it off. I always go over my face first with a makeup removing face wipe. I know that these aren’t going to remove all of the makeup, but for me its a good first step.

DSCN3455

I then go in with micellar water and cotton rounds. I’m currently using my favourite micellar water by Garnier. I love this so much. It doesn’t irritate my skin or eyes, doesn’t dry me out and it takes away basically all remaining makeup deep in my pores and brows, effortlessly!

I then cleanse and tone just like in the morning routine, but instead of the other steps, I use different products.

MaskDSCN3473

Hydro Boost Mask 5 Pack 19.99 Priceline

I’ve just finished reviewing this mask and I really like it. I use these once a week or whenever I need an extreme dose of hyaluronic acid. (SO GOOD FOR HYDRATION)

DSCN3401

These are sheet masks with 6x the hyaluronic acid than the moisturisers. So its gives a good old boost of hydration. They can look a bit scary though. Read about the masks here

MoisturiseDSCN3472

Hydro Boost Night Concentrate 24.99 Priceline

If I was only able to purchase one product from the collection, I think it’d have to be this one. I’ve used it with other skincare and obviously in conjunction with the rest of the Hydro Boost range and I love it. This is my favourite night cream for super hydration! Using this cream at night makes my skin feel so soft and supple in the morning. I think its really important to keep up hydration while you sleep. Its like fixing your skin while you’re doing nothing. WINNER!

DSCN3475

I always make sure to blend everything down my neck. Even if I’m not putting makeup all the way down my neck, I think keeping your entire face and décolletage area well hydrated is super important. Especially if you’re prone to dry skin, and to maybe prevent premature ageing.

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Mask of the Month: Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Final Review.

I’ve decided since I have nothing bad to say about this mask, this will be my final review and I’ll have some related posts coming up for the remainder of the month! Exciting – I know.

The lowdown:

  • Price: $19.99 PricelineWoolworths, $15.99 at Chemist Warehouse, $22.00 Coles ($14.00 sale price). Pack contains 5 masks – approx $4.00 per mask.
  • Target/Aim: ‘… to provide long lasting moisture to help skin look hydrated, radiant and glowing’
  • Skin Type: Suited for Dry Skin but aimed at any skin that needs moisture.
  • Smell: The smell is somewhat like cherry medicine scent – like the rest of the Hydro Boost range. It doesn’t linger nor do I find it unpleasant.
  • Texture: Each is a stretchy cloth mask that feels slippery and like gel.
  • Colour: White and the gel is clear.
  • Directions: “To use, remove mask and unfold gently stretching the fabric cloth to cover your entire face, press lightly with finger tips to set in place and relax for 15 minute allowing the essence nourish your skin. Ideal for use at night, once the fabric mask is removed the concentrated formula works beneath the skin to continuously hydrate whilst you sleep.”

What the packaging says:

Use after cleansing, open pack, take out mask and unfold.
Gently stretch the mask leftwards and rightward to cover your entire face.
Press lightly with fingertips to set in place over face. Relax for 15mins and remove mask. Manage remaining maskhydrating essence on face. There is no need to rinse off the essence. Discard the sheet after use. Ideal for use at night.

New Information:

  • Application: I’m getting better at applying it now. I’m not being so delicate with it and I’m really impressed at how it hasn’t ripped.
  • Dry Time: I kept this mask on for 20 – 25 minutes
  • 5 mins in: Still haven’t gotten used to the cold shock of when I apply it. But because I was just relaxing playing xbox and not really moving my mouth etc around much, I didn’t have an issue with the moustache strip becoming loose.
  • 10 mins in: Still nice and stuck to my face!
  • Just before removal: Once I felt like I’d had enough of the mask, I simply peeled it off. Easy Peasy!
  • Removal process: Easy Peasy!
  • Instant results: My skin felt super nice and squidgy, like always.
  • 10 mins after: I wanted to see how well this mask worked with other products so I used the night cream from the Hydro Boost line with this mask. It felt so good!
  • Next morning: I think because I used the night cream as well, my skin was just in hydro heaven.
  • Visible change: Skin is very supple. No dry areas.

DSCN3419

I’m becoming desensitised by the freaky-ness of this mask. I really love the Hydro-Boost sheet masks. Used in conjunction with the other products from this line I can see that my skin will just love me for it.

I used the night and day moisturiser this time with the mask and can’t wait to do a review of all the products at once! They’re perfect for people with dry skin or just anyone who needs a moisture boost! With winter coming up I think a moisturising mask once a week can really improve things!

I’ll be doing a full review on the range soon!

Tonight I played some xbox with my partner. We played a few games – it was really fun. One in particular called ‘Cactus’ that I really liked. It reminds me of ‘Hero’s Duty’ from Wreck it Ralf mixed with ‘Sugar Rush’ also from WiR. The characters are all super cute girls with guns and its a basic top down shooter game. I think I might do a review of it. So keep an eye out for that in the future if you’re interested.

Here are a few photos from the game. Its really fun and easy to play for someone who might not be as experienced.

Thank you so much for reading! Don’t forget:

Mask of the Month: Neutrogena Hydro-boost week 2 review

Back at it again with the white face mask! This time I slept with it on! keep reading to see my results. This is such a fun mask! Such little effort but such good results!

  • Application: This week I didn’t care so much about getting the mask smooth on my face, I didn’t care if it was wrinkled, I just wanted to make sure that there was no air pockets like last time.
  • Dry Time: This time I slept with it on. Which turned out better than I thought.
  • 5 mins in: When you first apply this, its so cold, so that kind of woke me up a bit, but after a few minutes, its room temperature because of your body heat. It feels refreshing.
  • 10 mins in: Because I’m laying down, the strip between my nose and lip wasn’t such a big issue.
  • Just before removal: So I slept with it on for approx 7 hours and it actually went really well, I thought it’d fall off in the night and I’d end up with a soggy pillow, but that wasn’t the case! Because the gel and the fabric work well together it is the right amount of ‘sticky’ and it didn’t slide around my face at all!
  • Removal process: Super easy!
  • Instant results: My skin felt so supple. A good kind of squidgy? I could feel the moisture being sucked in by my dry skin. It was a nice way to wake up with nice fresh skin.
  • 10 mins after: I was running late this morning so I went straight into my skincare and makeup routine. Makeup applied really nicely over the fresh skin.
  • Next morning: N/A
  • Visible change: It seemed to counteract some redness and obviously my dry patches weren’t so bad.

This mask contains 6x more hyaluronic acid (the moisture stuff) than the hydro-boost serum. (which I also own) so I’m pretty keen on getting some supple skin!

DSCN3400

I’d just applied the mask here, and as you can see there are air pockets around the eye area and bridge of the nose. This is something that I wanted to try and stop. So I re arranged it. I also thing it looks better when the eye cut outs are a big bigger. There is something just super creepy about this top image – I think its the lack of brows.. and expression. Just super creepy.

DSCN3401

Here I’ve re-arranged the mask so theres less air pockets. It looks less creepy too. Shout out to my main man Thomas (the seal in the background) for making an appearance in todays blog post!

DSCN3403

Here I am with my trusty cat pillow ready for a good nights sleep! I made sure to leave a little bit extra space around my nose – I was a little worried of suffocating – spoiler alert, I’m alive!

The only down side I can see to sleeping with it on, is I don’t know when to do my night time skin care – usually I do it before bed, but I didn’t want to interrupt the mask. I think next time I’ll just have to take a nap with it on. Ahh, the things I do for the blog!

Mask of the Month: BE Peel-Off Facial Mask Week 2 Review

Time for week two! I’ve had the worst cold this week and honestly didn’t feel like putting anything on my face, but I’m trying to be dedicated with these posts. I used the same mask again this week, even though I had a less than enjoyable experience last week, but I’m determined to try and get this to work!

The lowdown:

  • Price: $5.99 Priceline
  • Target/Aim: ‘…to remove dead skin cells from the skin and unclog pores’
  • Skin Type: Doesn’t specify.
  • Smell: There isn’t really a smell, although it does kind of smell like glue. The scent is meant to be ‘pomegranate’ but I don’t smell it at all.
  • Texture: Thick, sticky, smooth. It reminds me of the hot wax when I get my brows done. Obviously, this product isn’t hot.
  • Colour: Bright Pink!
  • Directions: “Cleanse face with your favourite BE Cleanser, and dry in preparation for the mask. Apply a thin, even layer of the mask to yourface and neck, avoiding the delicate eye area, lips and hair. Leave the mask on to dry for around 15 minutes or until completely dry. Once dry gently peel away the mask from the face. Do not pull away quickly. Wash off any remaining pieces of the mask with warm water. Pat face and neck dry. Use once weekly or as required.”
  • Application: I used my fingers to apply this, I think it is far too sticky to be used by a brush. Perhaps a small popsicle stick applicator would be better here. I applied the mask in a different area this week as last week was so painful to remove. I aimed for cheeks and forehead and across the T-zone. Keeping away from any peach fuzz baby hair areas.
  • Dry Time: Anywhere from 5-15 minutes
  • 5 mins in: As mask begins to set my skin feels tight, no irritation.
  • 10 mins in: Almost fully set, still no irritation.
  • Just before removal: When the mask is fully dry/set it looks shiney and kind of feels like wrinkly skin.
  • Removal process: I didn’t have the agonising experience as last week, however it still hurt a little in the top corners of the mask where the edges met my skin. The chin and nose area didn’t hurt much, because I’m used to doing pore strips/the skin is a little more resilient in those areas.
  • Instant results: There was still some redness, around my eyebrow area.
  • 10 mins after: No real lingering redness like last week. No irritation.
  • Next morning: My skin felt soft-ish, nothing to write home about. The only reason I feel like it does anything is because it basically rips your dead skin off. I can achieve that kind of result from exfoliating – and there is way less pain in that.
  • Visible change: Slightly fresher looking skin.

What the packaging says:

“A refreshing Peel-Off Facial Mask which works to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and unclog pores to reveal a freshand radiant complexion. Includes Pomegranate extract, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and for fighting free radicals in the skin, and Vitamin E for its soothing and smoothing effects.”

1

This week I left more space around the edge of my hairline and I didn’t join the mask all the way up. The areas I left free are the ones that hurt the most last week and I wasn’t doing that to myself again. This week it was still a little painful to remove.

2

Starting the removal process from the ‘inside – out’ works better I think. I begin to flick the edges around my mouth and nose first and peel the mask away.

3

The mask itself is quite heavy duty. It takes a lot for it to actually rip. So taking it off can be in one whole piece or two. It makes cleaning up easier. However the little parts that stay stuck on your face are annoying to remove, you can either peel them off or wash them off with warm water. Putting warm water on your face after this mask is a little uncomfortable so peeling would work better, but they’re kind of hard to get off so your either giving yourself more pain or waiting around with pink on your face.

Because the mask is so sturdy, next week I will be using it as a pore strip and see how that goes.

Pro Tips: Do not put this anywhere near hair lines. I am hesitant to use it again. I think this time I will only focus it in the centre of my face and not in any ‘peach fuzzy’ areas.

Do you have this mask? Do you know how to make it work? I’d love to hear your experiences.

Mask of the Month: BE Peel-Off Facial Mask Week 1 Review

So its time for my week 1 review of this months mask! This is one I will defiantly have to work with in order for it to be something I’d go back to, but have a read of how I went!

Wash off any remaining pieces of the maskwith warm water.Pat face and neck dry. Use once weekly or as required.”
  • Removal process: AGONY! I felt like I was waxing my face!
The mask is ready to remove when it starts to peel away from the face so I carefully started peeling. In the centre of my face was ok a bit rough, but much like a pore strip so it wasn’t so bad. HOWEVER, the outer edges clung to the peach fuzz on my face and it felt like it was ripping everything out. The mask didn’t meet my hair line, just like the packaging said and I didn’t use any fast peeling motions. It felt like it was pulling a layer of skin off. Any mask left on the skin can wash off with warm water and gentle rubbing motions.
  • Instant results: Redness! My skin felt soft-ish, but I didn’t really care because of the pain I was in.
  • 10 mins after: Still red. The redness lasted 2-3 hours.
  • Next morning: Redness gone. My pores didn’t look any clearer. My skin felt soft and looked nice.
  • Visible change: Slightly fresher looking skin.

What the packaging says:

“A refreshing Peel-Off Facial Mask which works to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and unclog pores to reveal a freshand radiant complexion. Includes Pomegranate extract, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and for fightingfree radicals in the skin, and Vitamin E for its soothing and smoothing effects.”

11

The mask is set, its shiney, and started peeling away from my face. All I did was gently pull it away. It feels strange (I think thats because its pink and kinda skin coloured), But around the chin and nose it didn’t hurt too bad.

12

As soon as I got past the cheek though, it started to hurt a lot! It was clearly stuck to my face and you can see how much it was pulling at my skin! I had to take a break for a while as you can see my face already going red. And let me tell you, my face doesn’t go red for any old reason. This was intense!

13

The aftermath. Redness. I thought it was a stain from the pink, but it didn’t stain my fingers after application or anything like that. This is irritation from the mask removal.
Pro Tips: Do not put this anywhere near hair lines. I am hesitant to use it again. I think this time I will only focus it in the centre of my face and not in any ‘peach fuzzy’ areas.

Do you have this mask? Did this happen to you? Let me know!

Mask of the Month: SWISSE Manuka Honey 2 week review

Second week in to the Manuka Honey mask trials and I’ve got some more tips and tricks about the mask that I’m super keen to share with you!

The mask says to use it twice a week and thats what I’ve been doing, the first week I did it the same way both times, but this week I decided to experiment with different ways of application so its less messy and to get an even covered face. I’ve also been paying close attention to my skin reacting/benefiting from prolonged usage of the one product!

  • Price: $17.99 at Priceline  $14.99 at Chemist Warehouse
  • Target/Aim: To detoxify and purify skin leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated
  • Skin type: Combination Skin – Well suited for congested and blemish prone skin
  • Smell: It has a cherry/medicin scent like a faint smell of red starburst
  • Texture: Smooth can feel a little gritty once it starts to dry
  • Colour: Dark grey
  • Directions: “Apply to clean, dry skin. Leave on for 10 minutes, or until the mask feels firm and dry, then rinse off with warm water. Follow with your favourite Swisse natural oil and moisturiser. Recommended for use once to twice per week”.
  • Application: This week I tried using just one finger to apply the mask to save on me transferring grey clay around my bathroom, it worked well but was a little bit more of a timely process and the mask was starting to set around the edges – still hard to get a precise line. The second time I used the mask this week I used a flat foundation brush: Using a brush meant I could get a precise line and not end up brushing mask into my hair and/or brows. It also meant I could apply an even layer over my entire face. I was worried that a heap of product would be eaten up in my brush and it’d be a waste but when I rinsed out the brush after application there was hardly any product in the bristles! That in my book is a win!
  • Dry Time: Anywhere from 5 – 15 minutes: Using brush technique. **
  • 5 mins in: As mask sets my face is feeling tight again.
  • 10 mins in: The area around my ‘problem area’ is a little tighter than the rest of my face. This might be a random thing or the mask is pushing the bad stuff from my skin in those areas.
  • Just before removal: Entire face is set. Because of the smooth application there weren’t any wet parts or sections that didn’t set.
  • Removal process: Because I was having no luck in the ‘splash and rub’ technique I decided to change up the removal process. The first time I did it this week, I simply got in the shower. I put the mask on before I was going to shower watched an ep of iZombie and then got in the shower. The second time I removed it (the time I used the brush to apply) I got a facewasher/flannel/face cloth whatever you may call them and wet it with warm/hot water (nothing that could cause a burn). I squeezed out the majority of the moisture and laid it on my face. The steam made the mask wet again and I just wiped it gently off my face. No mess, no fuss and the mask washes out of the face cloth super easy!
  • Instant results: Again no redness; safe to say I don’t have a reaction to this mask. Face is clear and smooth.
  • 10 mins after: My face feels smooth but not hydrated in any way like other masks do so moisturiser afterwards is a must. (it does say to add a moisturiser or oil after the mask in the directions so I guess they know whats up)
  • Next morning: No instant breakouts the next morning, however I’m not sure if my skin reacted to a product, or if its just hormonal breakouts OR if the mask is pulling out imperfections but I had quite blemished skin for the first part of the week. It did die down towards the end of the week and is fine now. Not sure if this will continue.
  • Visible change: Aside from the small breakout skin looks clear. No major ‘wow’ moments.

week2mask

You can see through the mask the uneven texture on my cheeks where I’d been getting these breakouts. This all went away – I’m not sure what the cause was. HOWEVER the mask didn’t make the breakouts any worse so, did it help in clearing them up?

closeup

Now don’t mind the intense close up, this isn’t often the type of photos I like to post, because lets be real – its not that flattering. BUT the left side is before the mask and the right side is after. My pores are still largish, but you can tell that they’re cleared and even though there is still that texture there it doesn’t look as bad. So I guess thats proof that the mask is good at clearing out pores.

I hope you’re enjoying these posts if you missed week 1 click here. I’ve got one more week using this mask before my final write up and review and then on to the next mask!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:
