Mask of the Month: SWISSE Manuka Honey Full Review

Mask one is DONE! It feels like I’ve been using this mask for years, but at least I know that I should ¬†be able to give a pretty thorough review / know what my thoughts are for this product because I’ve been using it for so long! So lets get into the final review! First up with be my weekly review and then my overall thoughts!

  • Price:¬†$17.99 at Priceline ¬†$14.99 at Chemist Warehouse
  • Target/Aim:¬†To detoxify and purify skin leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated
  • Skin type:¬†Combination Skin ‚Äď Well suited for congested and blemish prone skin
  • Smell:¬†It has a cherry/medicin scent like a faint smell of red starburst
  • Texture:¬†Smooth can feel a little gritty once it starts to dry
  • Colour:¬†Dark grey
  • Directions:¬†‚ÄúApply to clean, dry skin.¬†Leave on for 10 minutes, or until the mask feels firm and dry, then rinse off with warm water.¬†Follow with your favourite Swisse natural oil and moisturiser.¬†Recommended for use once to twice per week‚ÄĚ.
  • Application:¬†For this week I used the foundation brush technique and it is by far my favourite mode of application. I find I get an even coat of product and don’t have messy hands to transfer product all over my bathroom!
  • Dry Time:¬†Anywhere from 5¬†‚Äď 20 mins.
  • 5 mins in:¬†Mask is setting quick – I assume its because of the even coating and its quite thin.
  • 10 mins in:¬†Mask is almost all set, still the same deal with my pores being a darker colour.
  • Just before removal:¬†Face is fully dry, same areas are ‘dark’.
  • Removal process:¬†I’ve been really liking the ‘soak a flannel in warm water and sit it on my face then gently wipe’ technique. I went out and bought some inexpensive ones from kmart that are a dark grey colour so they don’t stain my white towels. I defiantly suggest doing this!
  • Instant results:¬†No negative reactions. Face is smooth and clear.
  • 10 mins after:¬†Face is smooth, no irritation or redness. Skin is clear and bright.
  • Next morning:¬†No breakouts this week like last week so that’s a plus. Skin feels soft still and smooth. Pores seem clear.
  • Visible change:¬†Same as previous weeks.

Final Thoughts:

I think this mask is great if you like face masks. I feel like it is something that you’d add to your permanent beauty regime instead of it being a once off ‘fix all’ product. I feel like yes it did keep my pores clean after I’d used it and it did help draw out imperfections so I feel like if I was to continue using this product it might have a permanent positive reaction for my skin.

In my experience it did keep pores clear, my skin felt soft and smooth, it isn’t a hard or lengthy process to do twice or even three times a week, it is quite relaxing.

My final opinion is that if you were to use this mask twice to three times a week it would keep skin in a good condition I don’t feel like it is something you’ll use once and all of your problems will be fixed. Keep in mind that all skin is different and you will have to try it for yourself.

The mask does feel nice and I think it’d be a cool thing to get your girl friends over, have some wine and slap this all over your faces – using the foundation brush is a must! Removing this with a damp cloth is also the easiest way of removal (except for showering).

You get a decent amount in the tub as well. I thought there would be hardly any, but doing these posts I’ve used it at least 8 times and there is still plenty in the tub. I feel like for the price you could easily get 20 uses out of it making it approx <$1 per use. That’s pretty affordable in my book!

Final word: I recommend you trying it and seeing if it helps your skin. It kept my pores clear but didn’t really do much in the way of minimising them. I noticed a small difference nothing to write home about though!

So there you have it! My final review on the SWISSE Manuka Honey Mask! I’m excited to move on to the next mask. I hope you’re enjoying these posts as much as I am enjoying making them!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Mask of the Month: SWISSE Manuka Honey 2 week review

Second week in to the Manuka Honey mask trials and I’ve got some more tips and tricks about the mask that I’m super keen to share with you!

The mask says to use it twice a week and thats what I’ve been doing, the first week I did it the same way both times, but this week I decided to experiment with different ways of application so its less messy and to get an even covered face. I’ve also been paying close attention to my skin reacting/benefiting from prolonged usage of the one product!

  • Price:¬†$17.99 at Priceline ¬†$14.99 at Chemist Warehouse
  • Target/Aim:¬†To detoxify and purify skin leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated
  • Skin type:¬†Combination Skin – Well suited for congested and blemish prone skin
  • Smell:¬†It has a cherry/medicin scent like a faint smell of red starburst
  • Texture:¬†Smooth can feel a little gritty once it starts to dry
  • Colour:¬†Dark grey
  • Directions:¬†“Apply to clean, dry skin.¬†Leave on for 10 minutes, or until the mask feels firm and dry, then rinse off with warm water.¬†Follow with your favourite Swisse natural oil and moisturiser.¬†Recommended for use once to twice per week”.
  • Application:¬†This week I tried using just one finger to apply the mask to save on me transferring grey clay around my bathroom, it worked well but was a little bit more of a timely process and the mask was starting to set around the edges – still hard to get a precise line. The second time I used the mask this week I used a flat foundation brush: Using a brush meant I could get a precise line and not end up brushing mask into my hair and/or brows. It also meant I could apply an even layer over my entire face. I was worried that a heap of product would be eaten up in my brush and it’d be a waste but when I rinsed out the brush after application there was hardly any product in the bristles! That in my book is a win!
  • Dry Time:¬†Anywhere from 5¬†– 15 minutes: Using brush technique. **
  • 5 mins in:¬†As mask sets my face is feeling tight again.
  • 10 mins in:¬†The area around my ‘problem area’ is a little tighter than the rest of my face. This might be a random thing or the mask is pushing the bad stuff from my skin in those areas.
  • Just before removal:¬†Entire face is set. Because of the smooth application there weren’t any wet parts or sections that didn’t set.
  • Removal process:¬†Because I was having no luck in the ‘splash and rub’ technique I decided to change up the removal process. The first time I did it this week, I simply got in the shower. I put the mask on before I was going to shower watched an ep of iZombie and then got in the shower. The second time I removed it (the time I used the brush to apply) I got a facewasher/flannel/face cloth whatever you may call them and wet it with warm/hot water (nothing that could cause a burn). I squeezed out the majority of the moisture and laid it on my face. The steam made the mask wet again and I just wiped it gently off my face. No mess, no fuss and the mask washes out of the face cloth super easy!
  • Instant results:¬†Again no redness; safe to say I don’t have a reaction to this mask. Face is clear and smooth.
  • 10 mins after:¬†My face feels smooth but not hydrated in any way like other masks do so moisturiser afterwards is a must. (it does say to add a moisturiser or oil after the mask in the directions so I guess they know whats up)
  • Next morning:¬†No instant breakouts the next morning, however I’m not sure if my skin reacted to a product, or if its just hormonal breakouts OR if the mask is pulling out imperfections but I had quite blemished skin for the first part of the week. It did die down towards the end of the week and is fine now. Not sure if this will continue.
  • Visible change:¬†Aside from the small breakout skin looks clear. No major ‘wow’ moments.

week2mask

You can see through the mask the uneven texture on my cheeks where I’d been getting these breakouts. This all went away – I’m not sure what the cause was. HOWEVER the mask didn’t make the breakouts any worse so, did it help in clearing them up?

closeup

Now don’t mind the intense close up, this isn’t often the type of photos I like to post, because lets be real – its not that flattering. BUT the left side is before the mask and the right side is after. My pores are still largish, but you can tell that they’re cleared and even though there is still that texture there it doesn’t look as bad. So I guess thats proof that the mask is good at clearing out pores.

I hope you’re enjoying these posts if you missed week 1 click here. I’ve got one more week using this mask before my final write up and review and then on to the next mask!

Mask of the Month: SWISSE Manuka Honey 1 week review

Finally I can start giving some feedback and actually start reviewing this face mask. There has been so much preparation for it, but now I can start giving my thoughts. I’ve tried to compile a list of judging criteria that should HOPEFULLY prove to be thorough and give some answers.

  • Price: $17.99 at Priceline ¬†$14.99 at Chemist Warehouse
  • Target/Aim: To detoxify and purify skin leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated
  • Skin type: Combination Skin – Well suited for congested and blemish prone skin
  • Smell: It has a cherry/medicin scent like a faint smell of red starburst
  • Texture: Smooth can feel a little gritty once it starts to dry
  • Colour: Dark grey
  • Directions: “Apply to clean, dry skin.¬†Leave on for 10 minutes, or until the mask feels firm and dry, then rinse off with warm water.¬†Follow with your favourite Swisse natural oil and moisturiser.¬†Recommended for use once to twice per week”.
  • Application: I apply it with my fingers, if you wanted you could probably use a brush or some kind of spatula but you might end up wasting product. I applied it so it was opaque but I think it might be a bit thick. We’ll see how it goes when it sets. I leave the area around my hairline and eyes mask free and also my top lip.
  • Dry Time: Anywhere from 10 – 25 minutes**
  • 5 mins in: The thinner areas of mask have already set and I can feel it getting tight. No tingling sensation or burning.
  • 10 mins in: Majority of mask is set. Whole face is feeling tight, can’t open my mouth or smile.
  • Just before removal: Everything is dry and hard like there is a shell on my face. When I open my mouth it begins to crack and fray. Trying to frown proves to be difficult.
  • Removal process: The directions say to rinse off with warm water however this is damn near impossible without getting drenched. The water definitely re-hydrates the mask to its liquid form but it doesn’t simply wash away. I was wiping and rinsing my face for five minutes and there was still residue around the edges. I’ll have to experiment with different methods of removal.
  • Instant results: Face feels smooth and fresh.
  • 10 mins after: No redness or reaction. (WIN) Face feels smooth and fresh still, pores are clear no difference in size though. (the mask isn’t meant to minimise pores so thats ok)
  • Next morning: My face doesn’t feel dry or tight which is nice.
  • Visible change: I do have a few spots that are starting to come through, however I’m not worried because the mask is detoxifying – I assume it has to draw out impurities first. (the spots didn’t flair up and only lasted a few days)

** Dry time: I put my mask on and then had a nice hot bath. The mask was drying well; but at the 12ish minute mark because there was a lot of steam the mask started to ‘melt’ back to its original state making it impossible to dry so I had to cut my bath time short and sit in front of the air con to make it set. This mask might be good to do first THEN have a bath or just nice to sit around watch a few eps of your favourite TV show and then wash it off.

I’ve used it twice this week as per the directions and the second time I used it the results were the same (still haven’t figured out a decent removal method – maybe the shower?)¬†The second time using it, I still had a few ‘breakouts’ like a spot here or there but nothing too severe which to me is a good sign. If I had inflammation and breakouts everywhere I’d assume I’m having a reaction to it. So far so good after week 1!

1SMH
Just after full face application.
2SMH
5-10 minutes in and you can see the change in colour.
3SMH
The mask is fully set. The dark areas I’m assuming is the mask pulling forward all the oils and imperfections from my pores.
4SMH
Here, after 5 minutes of rinsing there was still product on my face. It is quite hard to get it all from around the edges and still keep the rest of me dry!

Thats it for week one review. There are still a few weeks to go with reviewing this product. Hopefully I can come up with some tips and tricks to make the removal process better!

Monthly Masks!

OK-Because-She-MacGyver-Facial-Disguises

I’m so excited to be starting up a series on my blog for you guys! As you might have guessed from the title, I’ll be reviewing a mask (face mask or maybe a hair mask – oh the possibilities). There will be a range of different types of masks and hopefully some that everyone can enjoy! I have a list of some that I’ll be reviewing but if you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments!

I don’t have a strict skincare regime but I must say a face mask once or twice a week has become my little secret to fresh looking and feeling skin. But we’ll just keep that our little secret, yeah?

TheMask

Like I said there will be a range of different masks that I’ll be trying out and they will be at a lot of different price points. Hopefully whilst I’m on my mask hunt I’ll find some cheaper alternatives to some higher end masks for you! I really am so excited! I’ve got a range of different types all ready to go that range from: clay, charcoal, sheet mask and even some peel masks, I’ve also got some classic creamy masks and some good DIY masks for you to try out, too!

I’ll be starting the series with the newly risen to fame cult classic ‘SWISSE¬†Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask’. There has been a lot of buzz about this product in particular and I thought It’d be a great spot to start off!

As I have dry skin, I’ll be trialling masks that are more suited towards that and also masks for ‘all skin types’ but I’ll also be doing a few cult classic masks that are more suited to oily skin to see if there are any side effects to dry skin gals/guys using them.

Thank you so much for reading, if you have any mask suggestions leave me a comment, and don’t forget:

Priceline 40% off Skincare Sale Haul

The first 40% off sale of the year has just been and gone at Priceline, did you pick anything up?

12626068_10153896604987929_207794129_n

Like most of these sales I have a mental list in my head, walk into the store then forget everything! I walked into Priceline with the intent on buying something, I got four things (3 from the same range) and one other that is probably one of the most talked about items of the moment for me and that is the Swiss Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask With Charcoal & Kaolin Clay.¬†I’m in a few beauty groups on Facebook and about 2 weeks ago this was all any body was posting about. I don’t usually jump on the hype train but I love face masks, especially ones that I can put on, watch an episode or two of something, wait until it hardens and wash it off feeling refreshed and hope my skin doesn’t hate it! I’m yet to try this, but will let you know what I think!

The other items I picked up belong to the¬†Neutrogena Hydro Boost¬†range. I’ve talked about their day and night creams before¬†(read it here)¬†and have been eyeing off the rest of the range ever since. I recently picked up their sheet masks and I’ve fallen in love with them so I decided to pick up the remaining products from the range! I got the¬†Moisturising Foaming Cleanser, Water Gel with SPF 15 UVA/UVB and the¬†Eye Roll-On.¬†I’ve not tried them on my face yet, only tested them on the back of my hand. They have the same satisfying scent as the other products and my hand has never felt so revitalised! If you have dry skin I highly recommend you try some products out from this range! Once I’ve used the products enough to know how they work / if they work I’ll be sure to do a post on the full range so if you’re interested make sure you stay tuned for that!

Swisse Manuka Honey Face Mask: $10.79 / $17.99AUD

Hydro Boost Cleanser: $8.99 / $14.99AUD

Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF 15: $14.99 / $24.99AUD

Hydro Boost Eye Roll-On: $11.99 / $19.99AUD

Original Cost: $77.96  Sale Cost: $46.76  Total Saving: $31.20
