Autumn Smokey Eye + Youtube?

So I’ve been really getting into Autumn makeup and dark colours and lately I’ve been rocking a dark brown smokey eye and paring it with a grey lip. Every time I wear this look I get compliments on it, so I’ve decided to post on it and also film a YouTube tutorial on it.

I’ve had youtube for a while, but took a break because life is busy and I’ve just not been very inspired to film anything, but with Autumn makeup filling my life with joy, I’ve been itching to record. So I’ll include this video for you. I’m not an MUA nor do I have a fancy studio, its just me so don’t get judgey.

I wore the look with one of my favourite lipsticks ever which is this gorgeous grey by Shanghai Suzy, its the shade called ‘Dove’. I never would have expected to like a grey lipstick but I find myself reaching for this all the time. This might be one of the first lipsticks I’ll use up in full!

This was the first time I’d done my makeup like it. I was totally feeling it and felt flawless. Its amazing how makeup can enhance your mood and give you such a confidence boost.

I used my Stila – Eyes are the window – Soul palette to achieve this look. But once you see what shadows I’ve used you can swap them out for something else in your collection. Try using the Chi Chi Mattes Palette as an affordable alternative!

Its really easy to get this look. If you watch the video you can see what I’m doing, but if you use this diagram as a reference you still know what to put and where!

I love dark smokey eyes for the cooler months and I have been experimenting a heap with different looks so I hope you’re excited for that coz I sure am!

2 for 1 eye look!

I’m pretty sure we all have what we call our ‘go to’ make up look. Something simple but striking that we know we can 100% ace when we’re in a rush and need a little pretty pick-me-up or when we over indulged on our beauty sleep and need to get ready in 10 actual minutes.

My go to look is a simple gold/brown smokey eye. It can be toned up or down depending on the occasion. I used my Stila eyes are the window – Soul palette.

The eye look as I said is so simple. Follow the pictorial above to get the look! So many palettes come with shades like this, I reach for my Stila palette, Naked palette and also the Chi Chi Nudes palette.

EverydayLook

For the first look I used a nude lip colour. This is one if the Maybelline color drama lip pencils in the shade ‘Nude Perfection’ I think the nude colour gives the look a “sweet and innocent” vibe, especially in contrast to the purple. It is quite a peachy nude, I would like to maybe use a cooler toned grey nude (or even just a grey) to match the outer corner eyelid shade.
purple

For the ‘second’ look, I added some lashes and changed out the lip colour for this bright bold purple! Its one of the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lips in the shade ‘I’m Royalty’ I LOVE this shade (I love purple lipstick) and I think it works really well with this look. Not to mention going great with brown eyes. I felt more like myself with the purple lip. I felt more confident and it shows when you see the two ‘looks’ compared with one another in the next photoset. I look happier and more confident.

I also showed a photo with my glasses on, to prove that A) The eye look can be for anything, work, uni, looking good with glasses and B) If you’re a wearer of glasses, use them to enhance your face and your makeup! I’ll be doing a few ‘Makeup for glasses wearers’ posts in the future!

BEFOREAFTER

As I said above, you can tell that I feel more confident (werk it) with the bold lip. But that just proves (to me) that one should embrace their makeup, and use it to enhance themselves not to use it as a mask.

Its amazing what a pair of lashes and a different lip colour can do! It also goes to show that when you’ve got confidence it really shines through, and that is what I think is most important!  I love purple lipstick, especially with brown eyes, it gives me a cadbury chocolate vibe that I don’t even hate!

Nautical Nails – Nail Tutorial

So in my head, its always appropriate to wear whatever nail polish you want, DON’T LET THE SEASON DEFINE YOU.

I picked up some nail polish yesterday when I was trawling the shelves of my local Priceline (6 bottles – I have an addiction) and I fell in love with two shades in particular.

The polish I picked up was from two different brands / collections. I picked up the entire ‘Nauti Girl’ range from essence and two of the ‘Calypso Bay’ polishes from Face of Australia. (I already have four out of the collection, me and Newbytobeauty are obsessed with that range) When I have the entire range of the Calypso Bay polishes I’ll be doing a post, *spoilers* They’re amazing. I also really love the polish from the Nauti Girl line that I used in this look, nice going essence.

NauticalNails

So as you can see it’s pretty simple, and also… PRETTY!

THE STEPS:

  1. The things you will need: This look can be done with a bunch of different colour combinations, for this look I used an antique gold shade and a deep navy colour. You’re also going to need sticky tape for the ‘cut out/ stencil’ design.
  2. The navy colour is: 01 Ahoy, Boy! from the Essence ‘Nauti Girl’ collection and the gold is: 03 Pirates Booty from the Face of Australia ‘Calypso Bay’ collection.
  3. Paint your nails with the colour you want to have the cut out in. In this case I wanted navy nails with a gold cut out so, gold is the first colour to put down. *Don’t forget to put a base coat to protect your nails.*
  4. Once they’re dry, take a piece of sticky tape and cut it into squares (any shape with a straight right angle on it). Stick it to the back of your hand a few times to get rid of the stickyness of it so it doesn’t rip up the polish. Place the tape on the nail, the position is up to you, but make sure its straight (or not, whatever look you’re going for is fine)
  5. Paint over the nail with the top colour, in my case navy. Once the colour is opaque (this only took me one coat with this polish) peel off the tape – make sure you don’t let the polish dry because when you take the tape off, the polish might chip or peel off too!

So there you go. It is really that simple! Add a top coat and you’re good to go!

I hope you like this, and if you try it out let me know, I’d love to see some different colour combinations!

Thank you so much for reading, and don’t forget:

Black and White Water Marble Nail Art Tutorial!

Nail Art Tutorial!

This is the first time I’ve ever attempted this technique and let me tell you straight away – it is 10 times easier than I thought it would be and didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would!

I’ve broken it down into 8 simple steps and I’ll be uploading a video of my process to my YouTube channel, so be sure to check that out. I hope you like this, I’ll be doing more nail tutorials using this technique in the future for sure!

Preparation: Fill a cup (mine is a plastic disposable drinking cup) with ROOM TEMPERATURE* water, or let it sit out until it is room temperature. On clean and dry nails, paint a base coat to protect your nails, once dry paint nails white so the pattern is more vivid.

Close up of step 2. Notice how all the edges are anchored.

Step One: With your selected nail polishes, drip one colour in the centre of the cup and allow it to spread out (don’t be afraid if the colour fades dramatically or if it doesn’t reach the rim of the cup) with your next colour drop colour in the centre of the previous colour, doing this until satisfied – You’ve now created the ‘bullseye’ affect.

Step Two: Taking a toothpick or skewer drag the outside edged and connect them to the edge of the cup – this technique is called ‘anchoring’ it sticks the polish to the cup so it doesn’t move about so much when you’re swirling the polish around.

Step Three: Swirl and make your pattern with the toothpick or skewer. Don’t press too hard into the polish. Gently drag the stick through the polish to make the desired pattern. I wasn’t going for any real look, I was just having fun.

Step Four: Once you’ve got your pattern how you want it, decide where you’ll place your fingers, if need be turn the cup carefully to get a better angle.

Step Five: With a cotton tip in one hand at the ready, carefully submerge your fingers making sure your nails touch the polish first. Don’t remove them right away just keep them in the water.

Step Six: With the cotton tip, swirl it around the remaining polish in the cup, wiping it all up and making sure the water is then clear from residue. This is so when you take our your fingers, the residue won’t stick to the nails and ruin the pattern. Only once the water is free from excess polish should you remove your fingers.

Step Seven: Use nail polish remover to clean up the polish on the skin. For a quicker clean up process, place sticky tape on the finger, framing the nail, so all you have to do is remove the tape and the skin is clean and only requires a little nail polish remover.
Step Eight: Once fingers are clean and polish is dry, secure with a clear top coat and you’re done!

It really is very simple and I hope you try this out. If you do be sure to let me see your recreations by tagging me in it on Instagram or posting it to my Facebook Page.

* The reason it needs to be room temperature is because if the water is too cold, the polish will set too quick. It will not work either if the water is too hot.

Thank you so much for reading and watching, I hope you try this out don’t forget:
